Job Description - Water Resources Engineer (P.Eng or CET)

TheWater Resources Engineer (P.Eng or CET) positionis integral to our Environmental and Land Use Planning and Development Division's continued growth. We are seeking a Water Resources Engineer with a strong background in hydrology and surface water management to support the planning and design of infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will focus on hydrological design of watercourse crossings, flow analysis for care-of-water and stream isolation plans, borrow pit hydrology assessments, and stormwater management plans, to ensure regulatory compliance, environmental protection, and practical constructability.
The Work
Hybrid Office (80%) / Field(20%)
Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic analyses to support the design of watercourse crossings, culverts, and drainage infrastructure.
Prepare flow frequency estimates, design storm analyses, and peak discharge calculations using applicable provincial and federal design standards.
Develop care-of-water and stream isolation plans, including flow diversion, sediment control, and construction dewatering strategies.
Complete borrow pit hydrology assessments, including watershed delineation, runoff modeling, and water balance evaluations.
Support the preparation of engineering drawings, technical reports, and permit applications related to water management and environmental protection.
Coordinate with environmental scientists, civil designers, and regulatory agencies to integrate hydrologic considerations into multidisciplinary project designs.
Apply best practices for erosion and sediment control, temporary water management, and environmental compliance monitoring.
Conduct field investigations to verify site hydrology, collect flow data, and assess drainage features.
Support project managers by providing technical input, cost estimates, and schedule considerations related to water resources tasks.
Depending on the candidate's qualifications and experience with environmental projects, this role may be part-time to start.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or Water Resources Engineering
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or CET designation or eligibility for registration within the province.
3–8 years of relevant experience in hydrology, surface water modelling, or watercourse design.
Proficiency in HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, PCSWMM, HY-8, or similar hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software.
Experience interpreting provincial watercourse crossing guidelines, Water Act and Code of Practice requirements, and DFO fish passage criteria.
Strong understanding of watershed processes, surface water hydraulics, and environmental mitigation principles.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for preparing technical reports, drawings, and regulatory submissions.
Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel for fieldwork as required.
Nice-to-Have Skills
Project management experience
Familiarity with GIS-based hydrology tools (ArcGIS, QGIS, LiDAR DEM processing).
Passion for fisheries, wetlands, and environmental assessment
Working knowledge of construction water management and site inspection for isolation and dewatering systems.
Experience supporting environmental assessments or Water Act approvals.
The Workplace:
This is a hybrid office & field position, which includes working in a virtual environment from your home office as well as 2-10 day field shifts, as the need arises.
