Full-Time Continuing (35 hours per week) MSA Band G (Steps 1-8): $38.13 - $55.47 per hour June 21, 2024

MacEwan University is seeking a Web Developer Systems Analyst for a full-time continuing opportunity with the Web Architecture and Development team.

This individual will be a full stack developer who will help maintain and support MacEwan’s web platforms and integrations. They should also have a strong understanding of DevOps practices and use of public cloud infrastructure and technologies. The Web Developer Systems Analyst is responsible for developing, configuring, tuning and updating MacEwan’s web application technologies, including, but not limited to:

  • Java web application
  • PHP
  • Python
  • js
  • React frontends

Supported applications will be configured and developed according to established MacEwan University standards, to facilitate future troubleshooting, upgrading and expansion. The Web Developer Systems Analyst will also advise on and suggest improvements to our standards. This role will be a strong technical resource to other areas of IT concerning web development security and explore future web and development technologies that will improve the University’s business processes and strategic goals.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Analyzing current and/or new system requirements in the design and analysis phase of systems development lifecycle to ensure that the needs of the business units and University strategic initiatives are met.
  • Providing leadership and direction to business analysts and technical staff to ensure successful identification of business needs and solutions approach.
  • Examining complex system problems and issues to determine tactical workarounds and perform root cause analysis to achieve long-term solutions.
  • Implementing solutions that meet the needs of university strategic plans and corporate directives.
  • Enabling and facilitating change in the corporate culture by capturing and communicating what is necessary to evolve to desired state.

Skills

You will have:

  • Web application server configuration and deployment.
  • Understanding of web-based communication protocols.
  • Integrating systems, both internally and with external vendor systems.
  • Accepts and adapts to change in response to evolving technical and business needs.
  • Questions the status quo by asking "why" questions about work processes and work environments where required.
  • Practices and actively supports a service-oriented and client-centered approach to business unit services.
  • Learns quickly when facing new challenges; analyzes successes and failures for improvements; demonstrates innovation and creativity to develop solutions. Can orchestrate multiple activities. Uses resources effectively and efficiently.
  • Prioritizes resources to get the work done within time constraints.
  • Works well and communicates with multiple constituents, including technical staff, program/business staff and external providers.
  • Strong research, analytical and negotiation skills.
  • Detail oriented with established project management skills, including the ability to lead, facilitate and organize.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a diploma in related discipline.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience with systems and application management, specifically in web technologies.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
