Course Specific Qualifications

This course is being offered in an online format.

To teach this course, the following course specific and online teaching qualifications must be met, and evidence included in a teaching dossier.

  • Applicants must have an MBA, Master's in Human Resources, or Master's in Industrial Relations; PhD in Human Resources or Organizational Behaviour or Industrial Relations preferred. Applicants with another graduate degree and a professional designation and relevant professional experience appropriate to the area of instruction may be considered.
  • Applicants must have taught the same or equivalent course at a university within the past 2 years, with preference given to applicants who have taught this course at Ryerson University. Applicants who have taught the same or equivalent course at a community college within the past 2 years may be considered.
  • Applicants must provide evidence of professionally-related experience from the last 5 years, including professional roles, consulting jobs, or other expert activities, with a listing of dates, timeframes and activities.
  • Applicants must provide evidence of using experiential teaching and learning techniques.
  • Applicants who have not previously taught at Ryerson University must provide at least one letter of reference, specifically in support of this application.
  • Applicants must provide evidence of successful teaching, which includes formal teaching assessments from students and formal classroom assessments by faculty representative. Do not include informal assessments (e.g. Rate My Professor).
  • Applicants who appear to meet the above criteria may be invited to attend an interview to demonstrate teaching skills in their area.
  • Applicants must also address the Additional Qualifications requirements in their application/dossier.
  • Online Instruction Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience of ability to effectively teach in an online environment which includes demonstrated knowledge of best practices for the delivery and management of online courses, including using course management system tools to communicate with students and to foster and support a collaborative online learning community with and between students in the course. Successful completion of The Chang School’s Teaching Adult Learners Online (TALO) or Foundations of Teaching Remotely (FORT) preferred.
  • Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of personal computers that are relevant to this course, including document creation, file management, internet research, and communications.
  • Applicants must demonstrate their knowledge of best practices for the delivery and management of online courses as adopted by The Chang School, including, but not limited to:

  • Use course management system tools to communicate with students and to foster and support a collaborative online learning community with and between students in the course.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback on student work.
  • Respond to student academic and course administration inquiries in a timely manner and refer students to technical support or student support when appropriate.
  • Ensure academic integrity in the creation and administration of assignments, tests, and exams in an online environment.
  • Applicants who have taught this course at Ryerson University are preferred.

    NOTE: On offer of a teaching contract, successful applicants for whom the Chang School has no transcripts on file will be required to furnish The Chang School with official, original academic transcripts issued by their advanced degree granting institutions.
    While applicants may submit Faculty/Course Survey results from the Winter 2020, Spring/Summer 2020, Fall 2020, Winter 2021, and Spring 2021, these results will not be used as evidence of teaching effectiveness by the selection committee due to the impact of COVID-19 on these semesters. A negative inference will not be drawn if FCS results are not submitted for these semesters. Alternate evidence of teaching effectiveness may be provided by the candidate for consideration by the selection committee.
