PASAN is a community-based prisoner health and harm reduction organization that provides support, education and advocacy to prisoners and ex-prisoners in Ontario. We support and advocate with communities disproportionately affected by incarceration, focusing on prison health, harm reduction, HIV, and hepatitis C. Our aim is to eliminate health disparities, and the injustices that drive criminalization, incarceration, and STBBI. We also strive to restore justice, health, and healing for communities disproportionately harmed by the prison system.

DESCRIPTION

This program aims to increase access to information, support and resources for currently and formerly incarcerated women living with and at risk of HIV and Hep C. The program works with community partners to create accessible, culturally safe pathways to healthcare and social services.

Job Duties

• Provide individual advocacy and case management support for women living with and at risk of acquiring HIV/HCV.
• Provide reintegration support for ex-incarcerated women living with HIV/HCV
• Provide Case Management support to women prisoners/ex-prisoners women living with HIV/HCV
• Develop and deliver community-based programs for formerly incarcerated women living with and at risk of acquiring HIV and HCV.
• Develop and deliver skills building trainings on HIV, HCV and other prison health issues for service providers
• Actively participate in POWER collaborative planning and program delivery
• Engage in systemic advocacy issues in partnership with community partners and stakeholder groups.
• Develop and implement appropriate evaluation tools to measure program impact
• Collaborate with the Women and HIV/AIDS Initiative to align local community-based programming with WHAI priorities
• Foster partnerships and collaborate with diverse community partners and stake holders.
• Attend staff meetings and complete funder reports and other administrative work as required.
• Maintain ongoing communication and where appropriate consultation with correctional staff and community partners
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Combination of post-secondary education and significant experience in health promotion and/or community development
• Understanding of the health and social impact of the criminal justice system on racialized and Indigenous women and women who use drugs.
• Extensive knowledge of relevant community resources, experience, and understanding of incarceration commonly acquired through lived experience
• Knowledge and experience of HIV, HCV and harm reduction including a well-developed knowledge of relevant resources.
• Knowledge and experience working with communities vulnerable to incarceration
• Ability to determine needs, develop programs and facilitate community initiatives
• Experience developing, facilitating and evaluating targeted education and training workshop.
• Excellent facilitation, teaching and training skills
• In depth knowledge of the social determinants of health
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience of harm reduction principles and practice.
• Expertise in community development focusing on marginalized communities.
• Experience working within an anti-racist / anti-oppressive framework.
• Strong problem solving and communication skills and ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
• Demonstrated ability to work under pressure meet deadlines and ability to work both independently and within a team structure.
• Demonstrated ability to anticipate problems/conflicts and take appropriate actions, to organize and prioritize work.
• Sound decision-making and judgment skills with the ability to effectively manage communications with community, committees and coalitions.
• Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with PASAN’s related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices
