Job Description - Women's Community Program Specialist

Women's Community Program Specialist

Fixed Term (Until Mar 31, 2028), Full-Time | Hybrid – Edmonton

We thank all applicants for their interest. Only those selected for an interview will be contacted.

Facilitate. Connect. Empower.

You create welcoming, inclusive spaces where newcomer women build connection, confidence, and community. You bring strong facilitation skills, thoughtful organization, and a community-development mindset that centres participant voice, trust, and belonging.

You are comfortable working flexibly, adapting in real time, and supporting programs shaped by the people who participate in them.

About the Role

The Women's Community Program Specialist supports the planning, coordination, and facilitation of the Immigrant Women’s Integration Network (I-WIN), a participant-led, community-driven program for newcomer women.

This role blends direct group facilitation with program planning, coordination, and partner engagement to ensure consistent, high-quality, participant-centred programming. Working closely with Program Support Workers, facilitators, and community partners, the Specialist helps shape the flow and rhythm of cohorts and drop-in programming and supports a strong, welcoming participant experience.

Hybrid in this role refers to a combination of on-site service delivery and community-based work (e.g., employer visits, workshops, outreach, and client meetings). This is not a work-from-home position. Remote work occurs only occasionally, based on program needs.

About the I-WIN Program

The Immigrant Women’s Integration Network (I-WIN) supports newcomer women to build community, access information, and strengthen social connection through group-based programming and peer learning.

I-WIN is grounded in participant voice, cultural humility, and trauma-informed practice. Programming is flexible and responsive, shaped by lived experience rather than fixed curricula, and focused on building trust, belonging, and leadership.

What You’ll Do

  • Facilitate I-WIN cohort sessions and weekly drop-in programming using trauma-informed and culturally responsive approaches.

  • Create welcoming spaces that support participation, connection, and peer learning.

  • Adapt session content, pacing, and facilitation approaches in response to participant priorities and group dynamics.

  • Support Program Support Workers and volunteers during session delivery.

  • Plan and maintain cohort schedules, facilitation plans, and session flow.

  • Coordinate session logistics, materials, and supplies.

  • Lead planning huddles and post-session debriefs to support preparation and continuous improvement.

  • Coordinate external facilitators, presenters, and community partners.

  • Orient facilitators to program context, participant needs, and session expectations.

  • Maintain accurate documentation, session records, and planning tools.

  • Identify emerging themes and contribute to reporting, reflections, and success stories.

  • Collaborate with the Community Programs team and apply organizational policies and service standards.

What It Takes

  • Strong group facilitation skills rooted in trauma-informed and culturally responsive practice.

  • A community-development approach that values participant voice and shared leadership.

  • Comfort working flexibly without rigid scripts or fixed outcomes.

  • Strong organization, planning, and follow-through.

  • Ability to lead through collaboration without formal authority.

  • Clear, respectful communication and professional judgment.

  • Adaptability, curiosity, and comfort with ambiguity.

  • Integrity, accountability, and respect for confidentiality.

What You Bring

We recognize that skills are developed through a mix of education, experience, and lived practice.

  • At least two (2) years of experience working with immigrant or refugee communities, particularly women.

  • Experience facilitating groups or community-based programming.

  • Strong organizational and coordination skills in people-centered environments.

  • Understanding of trauma-informed, equity-informed, and culturally responsive practice.

  • Post-secondary education in community development, social sciences, education, or a related field is an asset.

  • Experience coordinating volunteers, facilitators, or community partners.

  • A clear Police Information Check (PIC), required as a condition of employment.
