This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Workday Extend Consultant/Architect based in Canada.
This is a highly specialized Workday development role focused on building custom applications and extending the Workday platform beyond standard configuration. You will design and deliver innovative solutions using Workday Extend, transforming complex business requirements into scalable, production-ready applications embedded directly within the Workday ecosystem. The role blends hands-on technical development, solution architecture, and client-facing consulting, making you a key bridge between business needs and advanced platform capabilities. You will work in a fast-evolving, agile environment where creativity, autonomy, and technical depth are essential. This position also offers the opportunity to help define development standards and shape a growing Extend practice. It is ideal for someone who thrives on building “from scratch” solutions and pushing the boundaries of what Workday can do.
Accountabilities:
- Design, build, test, and deploy custom applications using the Workday Extend framework across the full development lifecycle.
- Develop event-driven Workday Orchestrations to integrate Workday with external systems and ensure seamless data flow.
- Create and manage Custom Business Objects (CBOs), data models, and custom processes to extend native Workday functionality.
- Translate complex business requirements into technical designs, including UI flows, security models, and application architecture.
- Build intuitive, Workday-native user experiences using Page Builder and related tools.
- Use REST/SOAP APIs and Workday Query Language (WQL) to manage data interactions and transformations.
- Troubleshoot and optimize applications, performing root-cause analysis on performance, logic, and security issues.
- Contribute to reusable frameworks, best practices, and internal solution libraries for future Extend development.
Requirements:
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with Workday Extend development.
- Strong knowledge of REST APIs, JSON, and Workday Web Services; WQL experience is a strong advantage.
- Proven ability to design and build Workday Orchestrations and custom application solutions.
- Solid understanding of Workday architecture, metadata-driven design, and security frameworks.
- Experience with App Builder (visual and code modes) and building scalable enterprise applications.
- Strong consultative mindset with the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, agile, “build-as-you-go” environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a builder mentality and attention to detail.
