What You’ll Do
As a Working Site Supervisor at Ackard, you are responsible for leading residential renovation and custom home projects on-site. You are the primary driver of safety, quality, and productivity on your projects—combining strong carpentry skills with developing leadership capability. You will work hands-on alongside your team while planning, coordinating, and ensuring projects run smoothly from start to finish.
Your responsibilities will include:
Planning & Coordination
- Reviewing project scope, drawings, and plans prior to job start; asking questions to ensure full understanding.
- Leading and facilitating pre-construction meetings with internal teams and trade partners.
- Conducting site visits prior to project start to assess conditions and readiness.
- Creating and maintaining detailed project schedules, including coordinating and confirming trade partners.
- Reviewing production schedules and aligning with the Project Manager on timelines and expectations.
- Preparing material lists and coordinating delivery or pickup of tools and materials.
- Continuously assessing labour, material, and equipment needs and proactively addressing gaps.
- Completing and submitting weekly manpower forecasts and maintaining accurate daily logs.
Production & Site Leadership
- Actively contributing to site work by performing hands-on carpentry alongside the crew.
- Leading, mentoring, and supporting apprentices and Journeyman Carpenters on site.
- Coordinating and directing sub-trades, ensuring they are set up for success and aligned with project scope.
- Meeting trades on site at project start and providing ongoing direction as required.
- Monitoring progress to ensure work is completed on schedule and to quality standards.
- Conducting regular site visits and maintaining visibility and control across active projects.
Communication
- Initiating client communication, including introductory outreach following contract signing.
- Providing consistent project updates through Ackard systems and digital tools.
- Reviewing and responding to emails, messages, and project communications daily.
- Maintaining ongoing communication with the Project Manager and Construction Manager regarding progress, risks, and needs.
- Communicating with clients professionally on site while maintaining alignment with approved scope and direction.
- Participating in meetings and completing required HR-related tasks such as check-ins and reviews.
Health & Safety
- Leading by example in following all health and safety protocols and standards.
- Promoting and enforcing safe work practices among crew members, sub-trades, and on-site personnel.
- Conducting hazard assessments and maintaining a safe, clean, and organized job site.
- Reporting any safety concerns, incidents, near-misses, or risks to the Project Manager promptly.
- Ensuring all work is completed in compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Continuous Improvement & Development
- Participating in post-project reviews to identify successes and opportunities for improvement.
- Communicating openly with leadership regarding challenges, support needs, and development goals.
- Taking an active role in developing leadership skills and growing in the Site Supervisor role.
- Supporting a positive work environment through professional, respectful, and team-oriented behaviour.
What You Bring
We’re looking for someone who combines strong carpentry expertise with emerging leadership capability. You take ownership of your projects, lead by example, and are motivated to grow into a high-performing Site Supervisor role.
- Journeyman Carpenter certification required.
- Extensive experience in residential renovations and construction.
- Strong understanding of project flow, sequencing, and site coordination.
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and support a team in a hands-on environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make sound decisions on site.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Professional, personable, and confident working with clients, team members, and trade partners.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Comfortable using construction software and digital tools (e.g., Buildertrend).
- Demonstrates initiative, accountability, and follow-through on responsibilities.
- Adaptable and able to perform in a fast-paced, evolving work environment.
- Committed to continuous learning and development.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
Working Conditions
This position involves hands-on work in both interior and exterior residential construction environments. As a Working Site Supervisor, you are expected to actively work on site while also overseeing crew activities, coordinating work, and maintaining productivity across one or more projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Work takes place on residential renovation and custom home build sites.
- Frequent and routine work at heights, including ladders, scaffolding, roofs, and elevated platforms.
- Exposure to all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow.
- Regular lifting of materials up to 50 lbs; occasional assisted lifts up to 75 lbs.
- Physically demanding work, including standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, crouching, and continuous use of tools and equipment.
- Work may be performed in confined, elevated, dusty, or noisy environments.
- Regular use of power tools, hand tools, ladders, scaffolding, and other construction equipment is required.
- Must consistently wear and enforce the use of appropriate PPE (hard hat, safety boots, eye and ear protection).
- Responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and organized job site while work is actively in progress.
- Frequent coordination with team members, sub-trades, and supervisors in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
- Standard schedule is Monday to Friday, daytime hours; occasional overtime may be required to meet project timelines.
- No out-of-town travel is required.
