Xerox Digital Press/Jet Varnish Operator

The Xerox Digital Press produces printed product according to the docket and proof instructions. Jet Varnish applies spot coating and foil stamping to a variety of products.

The Xerox Digital Press/Jet Varnish Operator is responsible to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the machines to produce a high-quality product to the prescribed quantity. Other responsibilities include troubleshooting basic machine performance, making adjustments and calling for additional maintenance resources as needed.

The successful candidate will work on the following 12-hour day shift rotations:
Week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday - 6AM to 6PM
Week2: Wednesday and Thursday - 6AM to 6PM

Job Requirements:

• High School Diploma/GED/Mature Student Diploma


• Machine operation experience


• Basic machine troubleshooting and maintenance experience


• Must meet minimum color testing requirements


• Effective English use and comprehension


• Digital Literacy (Microsoft Office, keyboarding skills)


• Essential Math skills (Metric and Imperial measurements, problem solving, conversion charts, etc)


• Effective use of production related documents to accomplish job tasks


• Ability to detect, isolate, and identify irregularities and malfunctions in machinery, equipment, product


• Demonstrated organization, prioritizing, time and stress management skills


• Able to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner


• Ability to operate and use small tools


• Continuous learning/improvement mindset


• Must be able to work in a team-oriented environment while demonstrating self-management capabilities


• Able to deal with people diplomatically and professionally at all times


• Excellent manual dexterity


• Willingness to work overtime as needed


• Ability to work 12-hour shifts


• Must be willing to work at all Friesens facilities as needed


• Knowledge of workplace safety, safe lifting and handling procedures


• Printing experience an asset

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work and communicate effectively with the Managers, co-workers and with customers during press checks


• Manage the digital press and jet varnish operation for quality, efficiency and productivity, with an emphasis on quality


• Practice Friesens safety procedures for equipment and plant situations


• Maintain high production numbers for daily goals


• Complete all assigned quality checks throughout the set up and printing process


• Operate and manage press runs of Xerox Versant Digital Press and Jet Varnish functions efficiently and productively


• Locate job components


• Follow running instructions


• Efficiently set up the press as required and run make-ready sheets making necessary adjustments as required including:
  
  
  
  • Ensure ink densities and color
  
  
  • Square and center image, verify scaling
  
  
  • Ensure lineup and second side
  
  
  • Ensure page sequence and corrections
  
  
  
  


• Visual check of press sheet


• Manage and perform press maintenance as described in the Press Maintenance Binder and the Operator's Manual


• Provide feedback and maintenance requests to improve machine performance


• Participate in training and cross training and cross training, improvement initiatives including health and safety and quality improvement


• For digital press and jet varnish:
  
  
  
  • File handling in Prinergy
  
  
  • Plate handling, process and inspect
  
  
  • Identify plates and varnished sheets and transfer to required location
  
  
  
  


• Operate foil stamping functions of the press


• Perform any other job assignments as assigned by the Production or Operations Manager
