Job Description - Young Adult Supports Supervisor

Métis Child, Family & Community Services (MCFCS) Agency is a mandated child and family services agency with the responsibility to administer and manage culturally appropriate community-based child protection and support services for Métis and Inuit people in Manitoba.  We have launched and expanded on some very important initiatives that have benefited those who need assistance to be able to move forward in their lives in a better, healthier way. YOUNG ADULT SUPPORTS SUPERVISOR


In-Scope, Full-Time 12-Month Term Position

Hours of Work:                      7.25 hours per day between 8:30 am to 8:30 pm (flexibility required)


Classification and Salary:     SP5 $40.54 to $56.42


Location:                                Winnipeg MB


 


The Young Adult Supports Supervisor is responsible for the development and maintenance of programming directed at mentoring and coaching youth and young adults to practice and achieve the life skills, education and employment required to live successfully on their own. This role is accomplished within the framework of the Mazoun independent living program partnering with Rapid Services staff and the supervision of the Metis Spirit Workers and other agency workers. This position requires a highly motivated, energetic person who will ensure that youth and young adults are receiving quality cultural and supportive services. It is the responsibility of every position to provide, where requested culturally relevant service or assist with access to such service.


 


Education and Experience



  • BSW plus five years of direct child welfare experience

  • Post-secondary degree in social services, Youth and Child Care Development, or Applied Counseling plus seven years of direct child welfare experience

  • Other degrees and experience may be considered

  • RSW is an asset

  • Current non-violent crisis intervention, ASIST, First Aid and CPR be an asset.

  • 3+ years’ experience in working with youth and young adults in a social service capacity in a cultural aspect.

  • Experience in facilitating/conducting supportive groups.

  • Familiarity of community resources available to youth and young adults, including MMF programs and services available

  • Experience and knowledge of indigenous culture and relevant practices, events, activities and traditions.

  • Experience in writing program, funding proposals and reporting.

  • Ability to support youth and young adults about traditional practices and their cultural significance.


 


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities




  • Demonstrated understanding of Metis culture and communities


  • Familiarity with the “Strength Based Focused” approach


  • Capacity to work independently and as part of a team


  • Ability to develop collateral relationships with internal and external partners to deliver programming and supports


  • Working knowledge of all programs such as: Employment and Income Assistance, Housing, Employment Agencies, Educational Institutions and Employers to make appropriate referrals


  • Computer skills using Microsoft Office( Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)


  • Ability to maintain highly sensitive and confidential information


  • Ability to work cooperatively within a team environment


  • Ability to lead program development


  • Crisis intervention skills/techniques


 


Prior to commencing employment, the successful applicant will be asked to provide satisfactory results of a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, a Child Abuse Registry Check, Prior Contact Check and a Driver’s Abstract upon hire at their own expense.  A valid Manitoba driver’s license and the use of a personal vehicle are requisites as travel within and outside the city are required.
