The Chimo Youth Retreat Centre is a non-profit organization that has served youth and families in the Edmonton region for over 50 years. Our great staff team provide a broad range of programs and services to youth between the ages of 13 and 22.

Our Solo with Supports (SWS) Program is currently seeking a:



Full time (40 hours per week) Youth and Family Engagement Worker.




The Solo with Supports program is a community-based program that assesses and teaches life and living skills to youth requiring additional support as they transition to adulthood. The youth in the program may live in a mentor support home, in the Chimo 5 Transition Home, or in their family home. Often youth in this program will transfer to the adult  support system(s) such as Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH), Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD), and/or Adult Mental Health (AHS Programs and Services).


The Youth and Family Engagement Worker is part of a dynamic team that supports clients in a relational way, to maintain a safe and positive environment, while supporting individuals with life skills, personal goals and social interactions. Duties include:


Maintaining daily routines, in-home support services, transportation to and from day- programming/community appointments, facilitating recreational opportunities, client/family advocacy and assist families with adopting new parenting strategies.


Support youth in the development of healthy relationships, emotional regulation, positive lifestyles, personal safety, time management, recreation, self-advocacy, education and vocational exploration.



 



  • Collaboration with the service team members (youth coordinators and family support coordinators) to support goal development and attainment

  • Support as needed in our Chimo 5 Transition Home or Chimo 9 Reunification Home. Carrying a small caseload (of up to two youth) of youth coordinator duties as needed.

  • Administrative paperwork, contact notes, attending service team meetings, maintaining effective communication within the service team, collaborative and creative problem- solving and inclusion in the on-call emergency response rotation (after-hours).




Hours of Work:



  • 40 hours per week on a flexible daily schedule determined by the needs of the youth and program.

  • Early mornings, evenings and one day of the weekend availability is required.



  • On-Call responsibilities will be included after three months of employment based on a rotating




Qualifications:


A college diploma or university degree and a minimum of 2 years of experience in Child and Youth Care or related field such as Social Work, Psychology, or Community Rehabilitation.



Requirements:



  • Legally entitled to work in Canada

  • Clear, current (within 6 months) Police Information Check and Intervention Record

  • A valid AB Driver’s License, clean three-year driver’s abstract, three-year no-fault accident history, and access to a reliable

  • $2 Million liability with business use

  • Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination (minimum two doses) or medical exemption is also required.



Physical requirements:



  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs

  • Ability to physically interact with youth during recreation outings, etc.



Successful candidates will:



  • Demonstrate care and compassion for young

  • Possess a strong understanding of working with young people and adults who live with challenges in a variety of areas including developmental disabilities, mental health, attachment, addictions and barriers to accessing community resources.

  • Have knowledge of community resources to support youth

  • Have strong teamwork and communication

  • Be proficient with computer technology and writing reports/logs.



Salary, Benefits, Holidays:



  • The annual salary range for this position is $51,528 to $52,728 for 40 hours of work per

  • Agency health benefits begin after three months of Dental benefits begin after one year.

  • Staff get 10 paid sick days and 15 vacation days per
