Job Description - Youth Diversion Worker

Atlohsa Family Healing Services is seeking a motivated and dynamic individual to fill the role of Youth Diversion Worker Working as part of the Giwetashkad Indigenous Homelessness team, the primary role of the Youth Diversion Worker is providing diversion support for Indigenous youth experiencing or at risk of homelessness to secure a safe space to stay while working towards permanent housing. The Youth Diversion Worker supports the overall implementation of the Giwetashkad Indigenous Homelessness Strategic Plan.


 


Role and Responsibility


 


Using a wholistic Indigenous-led approach to principles of Harm Reduction and trauma-informed care, the Youth Diversion Worker will support Indigenous youth (16-24 years) experiencing or at risk of homelessness with wholistic diversion supports including Indigenous cultural interventions alongside intense housing focused case management. The Youth Diversion worker will mobilize program service delivery through an Indigenous cultural framework that will help create safety and housing stability to Indigenous youth who are living outside/unsheltered or who are experiencing any form of housing crisis. The Youth Diversion worker will work both within Giwetashkad’s residential programs (Wiigiwaaminaan and Yakhiyatakenhas) and with the Giwetashkad’s Housing Outreach team to lend specialized housing support to Indigenous youth experiencing any form of homelessness. The Youth Diversion Worker will work as a dynamic team member, assisting and engaging with the larger homelessness programs offered at Atlohsa Family Healing Services such as attending and engaging in scheduled internal and external case management meetings and contributing to required documentation and log notes. The Youth Diversion Worker must have excellent communication and collaboration skills and a grounded Indigenous identity and/or strong connection to an Indigenous community.


 


Suitability


 



  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the languages, traditional ways, history and cultures of the Indigenous population in the London region



  • Strong analysis of colonialism and the ways in which historical and ongoing colonization impacts Indigenous peoples intergenerationally   

  • Educational, work or community experience delivering land-based programming to Indigenous people

  • Experience working with Indigenous women and children who have been exposed to violence/abuse and with Indigenous people experiencing homelessness

  • Experience administering assessments such as the SPDAT and providing housing-based case management

  • Demonstrated strengths in interpersonal relations, problem-solving, crisis intervention, group dynamics, community development and other innovative approaches 

  • Understanding of cultural safety and an awareness of its impact on practice 

  • Ability to work in outdoor locations and do minor physical labour such as gathering poles and building lodge

  • Skills in conflict resolution, mediation, and negotiation (to build trust and resolve disagreements)  

  • Excellent organizational and coordination skills and the ability to prioritize multiple competing workload demands

  • Effective communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with others in a respectful manner as defined in the Atlohsa Code of Conduct 

  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License, First Aid and CPR certificate and Current Vulnerable Sector Check


 


EMPLOYMENT TERM: Permanent; Full-Time



CLOSING DATE: July 4, 2025


REMUNERATION: 



  • $25.00 - $30.00 Hourly

  • 100% employer provided benefits, including: healthcare, dental, and vision

  • Employer-matching Retirement Pension Plan (RPP)

  • Three (3) weeks’ vacation

  • Up to 12 sick days per year

  • Up to 12 self-development days per year
