VISION:

SCOPE



The Youth Education Support Worker is responsible for supporting student’s one-on-one who are or who will be in the education systems. The Youth Education Support Worker will service the Thunder Bay and Timmins catchment sites to ensure Indigenous youth build capacity, connection, identity, and self-esteem to reinforce safety, stabilization, and positive outcomes through land-based practices and Indigenous culture.



The Youth Education Support Worker will meet with youth through person-to-person, voice-to-voice, email, social media, and other interactions which may occur in the community or neighborhood locations.



QUALIFICATIONS:




  • A minimum college diploma in Social Sciences and/or equivalent knowledge with 3 years’ working experience directly with Youth.

  • Knowledge of and experience working with Indigenous Peoples, culture, ceremony, cultural programming, and traditions and an understanding of current issues facing Indigenous Women.

  • Excellent organizational/communication skills with emphasis on keen listening skills and ability to effectively interpret verbal communications and needs of prospective community members. Thoroughly, follows through on assigned duties independently while meeting strict deadlines.

  • Ability to plan, organize and manage time effectively.

  • Highly motivated individual with the ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Capacity to solve problems and to see different perspectives.

  • Knowledge of and connection to service agencies in the location of service delivery.

  • Ability to network with other community agencies, services, and organizations.

  • Knowledge and working of Not-For-Profit Organizations.

  • Must be dependable, able to follow instructions, respond to management direction and be able to improve performance through management feedback.

  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office; internet, general office equipment, and competency working with other databases.

  • Ability to speak an Indigenous Language is considered an asset.

  • Valid G Class Driver’s License, access to a reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance with minimum 2 million liability insurance.

  • Current valid vulnerable sector criminal records check. Valid 1st Aid/CPR.

  • Cellular phone and internet access is required within this position.

  • Must be willing and able to work a flexible working from home arrangement if required. This may include a combination of virtual remote work in your home and in office arrangements. This will be based on operational needs and will be determined by the ONWA.



Please know, this is a new position we are looking to fill.



The full salary range for this role is $49,500 - $60,778. ONWA conducts annual performance reviews, and employees may be eligible for salary adjustments based on performance outcomes and available funding.
