Job Description - Youth Worker, IEDP (4 Months Contract)

JOB OPPORTUNITY – Youth Worker, IEDP - Full-Time Contract (4 Months)


Youthdale Treatment Centres is a fully accredited Children’s Mental Health organization with a mission to provide children, adolescents and their care-givers access to the best available psychiatric care and support, restoring hope, and helping individuals reach their full potential.


Reporting to IEDP Manager, Youth Worker ensure a safe, secure and therapeutic environment for clients participating in the IEDP program, attending to the policies and procedures of Youthdale Treatment Centres and other such guidelines established by the Ministry of Health (MOH). Youth Workers also provide support within the shelter service at Covenant House-Toronto.


Location: IEDP Program, Covenant House-Toronto
Status: Full-Time Contract (4 Months)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Union/Non: This is a unionized position
Rate of Pay: $30.13 per hour


This is a temporary position to provide coverage for an employee currently on a leave of absence. 


Accountability


The position reports directly to: Manager, IEDP.


Corporate Responsibilities



  • Fosters positive and constructive interpersonal relationships with the staff, volunteers, and residents, visitors, outside agencies, government officials and related professional associations.

  • Maintains and adheres to all relevant legislation.

  • Maintains and adheres to organizational policies and procedures.

  • Works in compliance of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations, reporting hazards, deficiencies and contravention’s of the Act, in a timely manner.

  • Development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of training and development programs aligned with the organization’s strategic priorities and guiding principles.

  • Demonstrates management practices, which are consistent with the guiding principles and philosophy of Youthdale Treatment Centres.


Job Responsibilities


Client Care:



  • Acts as a member of the therapeutic staff team in developing and implementing treatment plans for and with the clients and ensuring these plans are carried out on a day-to-day basis. This includes the following:

    • Works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to set clients’ goals, assess clients’ needs and formulate Treatment Plans.

    • Plans group and individual programming for clients, ensuring that the programming meets the needs of the clients.

    • Provides direct care to the IEDP clients, including involvement in therapeutic interventions, program facilitation and client observation.

    • Facilitates day-to-day tasks to support the functioning of the IEDP program, including serving meals, assisting with schooling, taking clients to community appointments, etc.

    • On a rotating weekly basis provide 20 hours of support to the Covenant House Shelter. This involves providing mental health supports to youth residing in the shelter through facilitating therapeutic groups, documenting involvement and sharing information with Covenant House staff members. This is for the purpose of shared learning and a significant part of the partnership currently in place between Youthdale and Covenant House.

    • Assists the crisis management and follow-up support for clients, as appropriate.




Program Support:



  • On a rotating basis act as a shift coordinator and leader, managing the IEDP program to provide a high standard of treatment and care. This includes the following:

    • Consults and strategizes with the IEDP Manager, Social Worker and other members of the IEDP team regarding the admission of clients.

    • Consults with clinical and administrative staff to clarify policies and procedures as required.

    • Participation in regular group and individual supervision with the Program Manager and Program Social Worker.

    • Maintains open communication with the Program Manager and Program Social Worker on all matters related to the efficient and effective operation of the IEDP Program.




Administrative Support:



  • Responsible for overseeing the completion of all administrative tasks for the program during the designated shift. This may include the following:

    • Ensures all forms of documentation are accurate and completed on time, including incident reports, shift notes, and Treatment Plans

    • On a rotating basis, lead Clinical meetings, verbally passing on an overview of each client.

    • Completes miscellaneous administrative tasks for IEDP Program, as appropriate.

    • Attendance at regular team meetings

    • Other duties as assigned.

    • May be called upon from time-to-time to assist in other parts of the agency when necessary.




Qualifications



  • Degree or Diploma in the Social Sciences or related field.

  • Minimum of two years of youth care experience prior to the position.

  • Strong knowledge of the occurrence and range of transitional age youth mental health disorders and difficulties as well as of the social determinants of health, and the social consequences and risk factors associated with serious mental illness.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with multi-needs clients utilizing a goal-focused approach.

  • Strong listening and supportive counselling skills.

  • Ability to effectively model healthy behaviour and effective communication.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to establish positive partnerships and work as a member of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Strong ability to communicate verbally and to write clear concise reports and documentation.

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft systems.
