Job Description - Creative Director, Global Retail Design

The role is a direct report into the VP Creative Director, Global Brand Experience. You will oversee the Creative Concept, Global Retail Design team closely working with Global Retail Creative Realization as part of the Lululemon Retail Design Studio. Working closely with Global Brand Experience Operations, Retail Brand Experience, Digital Brand Experience Leader , Pop – Up Design, Global Brand Creative and Product Design.

You will not be responsible for but will actively partner with those who oversee: Store Development + Operations , Visual Merchandising & Styling , Brand Creative , Retail Events , Omni & Retail Technology.

a day in the life

The Creative Director, Global Retail Design will be responsible for being a part imagining and redefining the future of retail for lululemon, elevating, and enhancing the experience a lululemon consumer has within our four walls, including the connection they feel to our brand and that local community.

You will head up concept creation, experience design, and architectural design of store concepts and components.

As part of this role, you will expertly balance our desire for global consistency at retail with an understanding that the values and culture of our local communities must also inform, transform and inspire our retail experience. With that in mind, you will seek to integrate global and local brand at retail ideas through shared art, design and materials.

  • Creative Oversight of Stores components, key instore moments, guest journey, Brand ID moments and architectural identity.
  • Able to navigate the market and be-able to inspire the guest of tomorrow.
  • Responsible for elevating global retail creative output across all instore moments, key stores, wholesale, launch initiatives, identity, and Pop-ups (the omni experience)
  • Define creative strategy (across activities and platforms) working closely with the VP, Creative Director, Global Retail Design on Next Gen store moments.
  • Identifies creative retail opportunities – leveraging localisation in key markets
  • Partners with strategy to identify brand and product storytelling opportunities
  • Identifies, manages, and directs tier 1 & 2 global agencies
  • Uses market trends, consumer need, and competitive landscape and to support creative strategies
  • Responsible for influencing and collaborating with cross-functional and regional executive teammates
  • Research and seek new possibilities in the materials, aiming to focus on ‘making well-being and sustainability’ key focus for stores.
  • Bring the energy, from the pin-ups to creative crits, be inclusive and drive new creativity.
  • Must be-able to take all on the journey, working with best-in-class Retail Design and Realisation teams and facilities.
  • Inspires teams - pushes methods, creative processes and thinking (brand storytelling, consistency, and differentiation)
  • Develops best-in-class creative process and resource strategies for projects both in-house and externally based on business strategy and roadmap
  • Identifies resource and timeline gaps and calendar efficiencies with team and key executive counterparts
  • Key input, driver and editor of budgetary, resource and project/initiative needs for yearly planning (AOP)
  • Work closely with Retail Ops partners - responsible for executing on-time and on-budget
  • Develops global creative initiatives based on project and business needs

qualifications

We are seeking an Architect and Creative Author. A designer with a distinctive point of view and track record of bringing consumers and communities together for an elevated experience. You naturally look to understand the consumer’s perspective with the goal of curating the most impactful storytelling. Building community is at the heart of what you like to do.

Who Understands Modern Retail. Y ou have meaningful experience overseeing Retail Design for a consumer-focused global brand . This could include retail store design, architectural or interior design experience. You are known for innovative retail concepts and fixturing. You are likely to be fluent in AutoCAD, Sketch-up, Keynote, InDesign, CS SUITE. It would be beneficial to have a Degree in Design or related.

Global in Outlook and Experience. You are a global citizen, enjoy immersing yourself in other cultures and have worked for a global organization across borders. You understand the importance of defining partnerships with regional teams as part of a global function.

  • 10+ years of relevant experience
  • BA, BFA Arts/Interior Architecture/Architecture, MA, MFA Arts/Interior Architecture/Architecture
  • Agency experience
  • Client-side experience
  • Experience directly leading a team of 10+ people
  • Market research and insight gathering experience.
  • Global experience with proven portfolio
  • Expert in creative direction across store channels and media (facades, fixtures, materials, digital invention, consumer surprise & delight moments & environments)

Compensation and Benefits Package 

lululemon’s compensation offerings are grounded in a pay-for-performance philosophy that recognizes exceptional individual and team performance. The typical hiring range for this position is from $157,400-206,600 CAD annually ; the base pay offered is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards offering, permanent employees in this position may be eligible for our competitive annual bonus program and equity offerings, subject to program eligibility requirements.

workplace arrangement

This role is classified as hybrid under our SSC Workplace Policy: In-person collaboration is important, and much of the role can be performed remotely. Work is performed onsite at least 3 days per week.
