Job Description - Director, Merchandising Transformation and Integration

Job Description Some of what you will do: The Director of Merchandise Transformation and Integration will play a pivotal role in our transformation of the Staples Merchandising function. They will be responsible for developing, leading the execution of and reporting on progress of transformation roadmap. Critical to success is the ability to work with multiple stakeholder groups within Merchandising and across the business to deliver on stated outcomes. In addition, they will play a key role in the effective planning and managing of the Merchandising work related to current B2B and any future integrations. Specifically, You Will
  • Develop and lead execution of merch transformation roadmap that prioritizes and sequences improvement efforts across organization.
  • Create project management framework for transformation initiatives including targets, timelines, milestones, and resourcing. Track milestones and results of initiatives to ensure success, and report on progress and results to senior executives and board
  • Partner across merchandising and rest of org to develop new/evolve current processes.
  • Partner with Merch and cross functional partners to identify and prioritize technology requirements and create development and implementation plan in conjunction with IT teams.
  • Develop in partnership and ensure execution of the change management activities to support the transformation.
  • Create foundational strategic guidelines for merchants including category roles & intents, channel strategy, etc.
  • Manage budget and coordination of any external support for transformation initiatives.
  • Coordinate Merchandising efforts in the integration process of B2B acquisitions.
Some Of What You Need
  • Successful completion of post-secondary education in a quantitative field or equivalent blend of education and work experience.
  • Proven ability to influence and create outcomes without directly driving execution
  • Lead organizational behavioral change toward increased collaboration & accountability across functions and teams
  • Critical thinking and ability to be forward looking to guide strategy to win
  • Strong Project Management skills and Process Development expertise
  • Exemplify ‘leading the function’ leadership capabilities (i.e. inspire people and groups, mobilize with shared purpose, champion change, and shape function strategy)
  • Embody our partnership behaviors (i.e. commit to shared outcomes, partner across boundaries, empower our people and teams, and team seamlessly)
  • Broad understanding of retail and specifically merchandising function
  • 10 years of experience in retail, ideally in merchandising.
  • 5+ years of leading teams, both direct and indirect.
  • Experience leading large scale transformation projects and initiatives with a track record of business impact, that have included changes in structure, process and technology tools.
