Environmental Health & Safety Analyst Location Toronto, ON :

Location: 22 St. Clair Avenue East, Toronto, Ontario, M4T 2S5

As a key member of the Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety (EOHS) Team, the EOHS Analyst will support the EOHS Lead in identifying and mitigating environmental, environmental health & safety (EHS), as well as occupational health & safety (OHS) risks across the broader company. This includes assisting in the development of EOHS policies and procedures, conduct associated trainings, as well as the implementation and management of EOHS programs and projects to support our Property Management, Leasing, Development, Sustainability, Finance and Transactions teams. This is a highly visible role that will provide the successful incumbent with the opportunity to work with a diverse group of internal and external industry experts across numerous properties and assets in Canada.

Responsibilities:

  • Draft, implement and maintain EOHS policies and procedures in accordance with applicable legislation and industry best practices.
  • Develop, deploy, and track EOHS trainings to relevant roles across the company.
  • Support the internal compliance auditing process of EOHS policies, procedures, and training by providing updates and evidence and implement remedial action plans alongside the EOHS Lead, as required, to achieve resolution.
  • Support the development, implementation, and management of EOHS national programs to ensure compliance with applicable legislation and industry best practices.
  • Coordinate and manage environmental site assessments (including Phase I ESAs, Phase II ESAs, Groundwater Monitoring, Remediations) and other assessments and inspections in support of due diligence reviews, insurance requirements and property-specific transactions, financings, and development.
  • Coordinate and manage hazardous materials reviews (including hazardous materials surveys, abatements, asbestos assessments/reassessments, designated substances surveys, mold assessments, indoor air quality assessments) and other assessments and inspections as required to meet legislative requirements related to ongoing property management, leasing, construction, and development.
  • Respond to spills and incidents by notifying external consultants (when needed), and work with Property Management to ensure appropriate closure is achieved.
  • Engage and manage external consultants, as required, to complete programs and projects, identify potential environment liabilities, determine recommended next steps, and stay up to date with industry standards.
  • Communicate appropriate recommendations to relevant departments based on assessment/investigation findings.
  • Act as internal corporate resource to all Choice teams by providing EOHS technical guidance on potential liabilities, legislative requirements, and insurance.

Job Qualifications:

  • 2-3 year's experience in the coordination and management of EOHS programs and projects, review and communication of results, and the tracking and development of plans to mitigate issues to resolution.
  • Relevant professional designation(s) (such as EP/EPt, C.Tech./C.E.T., CRSP, etc.) would be considered an asset.
  • Bachelor's degree (B.E.S./BA/B.Sc./B.Eng.) in environmental studies/science, environmental engineering, or an associated program from a four-year college or university.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Federal and Provincial EOHS laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency to comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex consultant reports.
  • Ability to clearly communicate (verbally and in writing) complex scientific results and recommendations to various Choice teams to support business goals.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically PowerPoint and Excel (functions, formulas, PivotTables, etc.).
  • Motivated, self-starter, team player and can work independently.
  • Well organized and methodical.
  • Collaborative, adaptable and strong interpersonal skills with ability to work with colleagues across different functions and levels of the organization.
  • Fluency in French would be considered an asset.
  • Valid driver's licence and ability to travel in Canada as required (less than 5%)
