OUR TEAM

With operations in full gear, the Integrated Operations Centre (IOC) provides a consistent and collaborative response to operational needs at the Calgary International Airport. The IOC is the “heart” of YYC’s operations – one team creating significant enhancements and a seamless, customer-focused response to all operational activities both in the terminal and on the airfield. The Calgary Airport Authority manages and operates YYC Calgary International Airport and YBW Springbank Airport and collaborates with the many partners who make up YYC - from airlines to government agencies and retail outlets. WHAT YOU WILL DO

Reporting to the General Manager, Integrated Operations Centre, this role will be the operational bridge between all planned changes and construction work within the airport to support an effective delivery for day-of operations. This role will oversee the operational delivery portfolio including programs, systems, relationships, and be a subject matter expert in operational planning.

The MOA, IOC Planning & Support role will hold accountability for vetting and approving work and event permits as the cross-functional stakeholder to ensure integrity of security, safety and operational excellence is always protected, and propose variations to operational plans to maximize efficiency when warranted.

Though the expectation of this role is to work during business hours, as required, the MOA – IOC Planning & Support will act as the on-duty MOA, making decisions on how we operate day-of, 24/7/365, in a manner that complies with applicable laws and the Authority"s risk profile. This role also has the responsibility of leading the on-duty personnel whose work at the airport affect the safe, secure, and efficient delivery of day-of operations.

This role operates at every level of the business, able to professionally represent the IOC leadership team with various internal departments and external agencies, including but not limited to the Intelligence services, government departments, law and regulatory enforcement, foreign agencies and airline partners.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Support and develop the IOC teams toward delivering operational excellence as a world-class airport
  • Collaborate with business units beyond the IOC to develop and deliver a strong operational plan for any and all construction work and programs which impact day-of operations
  • Critical decision maker on operational issues and key link with Business Recovery and Crisis Management teams
  • Communicate forecasted work and changes, and their operational impact along with contingencies and mitigation plans on behalf of IOC
  • Audit changes and implemented programs post-delivery to understand areas of improvement and adjust the future-proofing of the operations plan
  • Proactively remain abreast of new developments or organizational changes that impact their function and the delivery of the operational promise
  • Responsible for planning capacity management initiatives to protect efficient operations delivery, including but is not limited to departure metering, weather events, irregular operations etc
  • Identify, develop and implement improvement initiatives as it relates to procedures for airport operations that drives progressive efficiencies
  • Develop and implement meaningful and measurable metrics to track daily performance to guide decision making
  • Liaise with other industry stakeholders, associations and community partners on airport issues and best practices
  • Work collaboratively with IOC Training & Standards to identify, recommend and implement policies, SOPs, and other protocols that effect operations
  • Responsible for workforce planning beyond day-of for the IOC team, including but not limited to vacation leaves and scheduled time away from work
  • Collaborate with IOC leadership team to monitor, evaluate and address IOC team performance
  • Special Projects as delegated by GM, IOC and other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Ability and commitment to be trained and operate as a Manager, Operations - Airports
  • Minimum five (5) years aviation experience, specifically working within an airport or airline operations center environment
  • Minimum five (5) years leadership experience directly managing people, in a matrix organization with multiple operations is preferred
  • Strong knowledge in aviation regulatory, security, safety and environmental legislation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft systems with a preference for experience with PowerBI, Power Automate, and Power Apps
  • A proven ability to deal with complex issues involving multiple priorities
  • Solid leadership ability managing and coaching direct reports with experience in a unionized environment is an asset
  • Strong strategic thinking ability with excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work under tight deadlines while adapting to changing priorities
  • A team player who appreciates and encourages cross divisional problem solving, thrives in a team atmosphere, and prefers open and productive discussions
  • A consensus builder who influences others in a collaborative and productive manner, while leading change and taking calculated risks
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC).
