Job Description - Payroll and Benefits Technician

Location : 2300 – 666 Sherbrooke St. W., Montreal, QC.

Status : Full-time

Start Date : As soon as possible

Salary : Starting from $60,000 per year

 

Reporting to the Payroll and Benefits Manager, the Payroll and Benefits Technician is responsible for the accurate and timely administration of all payroll and benefits activities for our largest hotel: the Marriott Château Champlain, but will also support the service manager in the administration of benefits for all our employees in Canada. This person works closely with the Human Resources team and financial management to ensure that employees are compensated correctly and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. This individual plays a critical role in the accurate and timely processing of employee salaries and benefits. Responsibilities:

  • Collect, verify and process data relating to hours worked, leave, absences and other elements of remuneration.
  • Calculate salaries, benefits, deductions and other payroll items using a computerized payroll management system.
  • Complete direct deposits, prepare paychecks and pay statements, and distribute them to employees in accordance with company policies.
  • Manage employee benefit programs such as health insurance plans, pension plans and retirement savings programs.
  • Ensure coordination of benefits activities, including enrollment, termination and coverage changes.
  • Answer employee questions about benefits and resolve benefits-related issues.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable payroll laws and regulations, including payroll taxes, mandatory deductions and reporting requirements.
  • Prepare and submit tax returns and government payroll reports.
  • Make necessary updates to comply with legislative changes in payroll.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date payroll records for each employee, including personal information, pay rates, hours worked, leave and other payroll items.
  • Ensure confidentiality and security of payroll information in accordance with company policies and data protection regulations.
  • Answer employee questions regarding their pay, deductions, pay statements and compensation policies.
  • Resolve payroll issues, including calculation errors, incorrect deductions or late payments.

Requirements:

 

  • College diploma in administration, accounting or a related field.
  • Prior experience processing payroll, preferably in a labor-intensive environment, knowledge of the hospitality and tipping industry is a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of payroll laws and regulations in Quebec
  • Proficiency in payroll management software and related computerized systems.
  • Knowledge of Nethris, Synerion and UKG software is an asset.
  • In-depth knowledge of Excel is essential.
  • Excellent organizational, attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and manage confidential information.
  • A good level of French (spoken, read, written) is essential for this position.
