Senior Product Designer

Story Behind the Need:

• Business group: Digital Product Design – Platform Experiences – group of designers that create product for consumers I the respective website and app on an authenticated platform (need to sign in to use service e.g. banking app, and web version for banking transactions) – encapsulates retail, iTrade, and Wealth lines of business
• Project: As Senior Product Designer, you will be part of a team that is building client’s Global Design System: an integral part of client’s digital products that touch over 25 million users every day. You’ll work closely with client’s design and engineering community to help shape, build, and scale the design language of client’s products and services.

Typical Day in Role:

• Work with a multidisciplinary team of 8+ team members, including visual designers, accessibility experts, quality tester, Web, iOS, and Android developers
• Craft thoughtful design solutions with an expert understanding of web and mobile design UX/UI patterns, Apple’s HIG, Material 3 and Material 2 guidelines
• Define Design System details that include tokens, component specifications, behaviors, accessibility criteria and use case guidelines
• Advocate for client’s Design System, promoting scalable design practices and knowledge throughout the bank
• As a subject matter expert, you will help facilitate design contributions in demos and answer inquiries from the design and development community in Office Hours.
• Collaborate closely with designers from Canada, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru

Candidate Requirements/Must Have Skills:

• 10 + years of experience as a UI/UX designer
• 1-3 years demonstrated recent experience setting up a custom design system
• 5+ years of recent experience designing web and native front-end design (material 2, material 3)
• 2+ years’ hands-on recent experience with Figma: theming, token studio, variables

Nice-To-Have Skills:

• JIRA + Confluence experience – understanding how to manage time and scope out user stories
• Previous experience with design systems preferred
• Fundamental understanding of HTML/CSS
• Experience applying WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) to design
• Spanish proficiency
• Animation

• Ability to work in a self-guided manner
• Ability to communicate concepts, ideas and strategies using rapid visual design techniques.

Education:

• Degree in Graphic Design, Product Design, User Experience Design, related field, or equivalent work experience

Best VS. Average Candidate:

• A strong individual contributor in design systems who has the right soft skills, education and experience to excel in the role.
• A commitment to high quality design and accessibility criteria; a strong visual design skillset and proven experience to support it (e.g. strong portfolio).
• With Figma, need hands on experience building components
• Need someone strong who can hit the ground running
• Someone who has a focus on design systems

Candidate Review & Selection:

• 2 rounds – MS Teams Video Interviews:
o 1st round interview with HM – skill and culture fit / behavioral (30 minutes)
o 2nd round interview with HM and 1-2 stakeholders – sharing approach to design systems management and design systems creation; candidate expected to speak about creating local variables to define a theme (1 hour)
• NOTE: Portfolios are not required, up to candidate how they want to relay experience in the interview, if have portfolio that is relevant then they can share – relevant experience and how they present it is more important.
