Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting of Income Taxes

  • Responsible for the review of the monthly Canadian and consolidated income tax provisions, note disclosure and uncertain tax positions
  • Ensure compliance with IAS 12 accounting standards
  • Manage different stakeholders and internal and external resources to meet project due dates
  • Identify, develop, recommend and implement internal controls designed to strengthen the overall control environment and accelerate the timely and accurate financial reporting of income taxes

Compliance

  • Responsible for the review of all Canadian income tax returns
  • Review documentation to support annual transfer price studies and individual transfer price studies
  • Manage different stakeholders and internal and external resources to meet project due dates
  • Monitor compliance filings in foreign jurisdictions
  • Identify, recommend and implement standard operating procedures to centralize and support the efficient, timely and accurate preparation of all filings
  • Review indirect tax advice provided to sites and oversee the indirect tax reporting processes including educating the sites, where appropriate

Controversy

  • Effectively manage all tax audits, and respond to all tax notices and related correspondence

Tax planning/Special projects

  • Identify, research, recommend and implement the approved opportunities to lower the effective tax rate, minimize cash taxes and increase cash repatriations to Canada
  • Lead approved tax planning opportunities including ongoing Canadian and foreign reorganizations

Education & Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Professional Designation, Certified Public Accountant (“CPA”)
  • Master’s Degree in Taxation or other similar advance degree, such as CPA In-Depth Tax Course

Qualifications:

  • At least 10 to12 years combined experience with:
  • Audit function of a public accounting firm
  • Tax function of a public accounting firm
  • Corporate tax function of a multinational public company
  • Strong tax technical skills and thorough understanding of domestic income tax legislation
  • Solid understanding of Scientific Research & Experimental Development and other business incentives
  • Working knowledge of international tax, including Transfer Pricing, Treaty Based Financing Structures, structuring of out-bound investments, primarily but not limited to Mexico and the U.S., and the tax efficient repatriation of earnings
  • Proven ability to identify tax issues, research tax issues, communicate findings, recommend and implement solutions
  • Strong technical skills and a thorough understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards, the financial statement audit function and the financial reporting of income taxes
  • Solid understanding and experience with internal controls
  • Solid understanding and hands on experience with tax return preparation software (Taxprep)
  • Experience with non-income tax matters (i.e., sales and use and personal property tax)
  • Manage internal and external resources to meet project due dates
  • Proven ability to collaborate with different stakeholders (i.e., Accounting, Legal, Operations, Legal) and build consensus within a large decentralized organization
  • Proficiency with Taxprep software
  • Proficiency with Microsoft suite of products
  • Ability to analyze general ledger entries efficiently
