Job Description - ASIC Architect

ABR Overview Applied Brain Research has been a prominent developer of advanced AI solutions for almost a decade and is now developing commercial products based upon its patented state space neural network algorithm, the Legendre Memory Unit (LMU). The data-efficient LMU network is ideal for solving a difficult class of time series AI problems across consumer, medical, industrial and automotive applications, including advanced signal processing, speech recognition, and language processing. To bring the ultimate benefit of LMUs to our customers we are developing purpose built ASICs to achieve the best performance and low power operation possible. We are seeking a highly energetic, enthusiastic, and experienced Firmware Engineer with the aptitude to take our current and future chip development efforts to the next level. Job Description We are seeking an experienced ASIC Architect to lead our team in the development of application-specific SOCs (system-on-chips). The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in all aspects of product definition, development, and validation, with a strong focus on secure embedded MCUs and computationally intensive subsystems. The candidate will be able to demonstrate consistent ability to deliver high quality results that meet schedule objectives. Responsibilities
  • Lead the definition, development, and validation of application-specific SOCs.
  • Define all aspects of ASIC architecture: secure embedded MCUs, memory subsystem, power management, clock tree, test, and I/O.
  • Navigate tradeoffs to achieve the smallest chip area, lowest power consumption, and target performance levels.
  • Understand customer requirements and incorporate them into product design.
  • Conduct competitive benchmarking to ensure product competitiveness.
  • Document all aspects of product development and communicate effectively with the team.
  • Coordinate across global time zones to ensure seamless collaboration.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in ASIC architecture and design for mass production applications.
  • Proven track record of delivering chip architectures that led to successful production launch with first-time silicon.
  • Extensive experience in application-specific SOC development with experience in:
    • Heterogeneous multiprocessor architecture and computational datapath design
    • Secure embedded MCU systems
    • Memory technologies (volatile and non-volatile)
    • Chip I/O design
    • Design for test (DFT)
  • Understanding of ASIC package types and implications for ASIC design (impedance, heat dissipation, power/ground, bond pad placement, etc).
  • Experience delivering designs for consumer, medical, industrial, and automotive market applications.
  • Experience with advanced technology nodes, including 22nm and below.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand customer and competitor driven requirements and
  • incorporate them into product design.
  • Excellent documentation skills.
  • Effective communication and coordination skills across global time zones.
  • Familiarity with the Git revision control system.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Coding skill in Python and C/C++ a plus.
