Job Summary Reporting to the Manager of the Cancer Registry, the incumbent participates in the collection, abstraction, and analysis of complex medical data for the Provincial Cancer Registry. Accurately encodes all related cancer data from cytology and pathology reports, including electronic pathology feeds, autopsy reports, report of malignant neoplasm, admission/separation data from the provincial hospital abstracting system, vital statistics death listings, hospital, and clinic charts into the computerized cancer registry data base. Maintains confidentiality, has the ability to work independently, or in a team setting and is willing to assume a variety of assignments as required.
Qualifications Required: - Graduate of a recognized Health Information Management Program (2 year)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook)
- ICD 9- CM/ICD10 (International Classification of Diseases Clinical Modification) and CCI (Canadian Classification of Interventions) coding.
- Excellent oral/ written communication and organizational skills
- Sound judgement and problem-solving skills
- Must be able to legally work in Canada
- Must have a satisfactory employment record
Preferred - Experience working in Cancer Registry
- Experience with ICD-O 3rd Edition (International Classification of Diseases for Oncology)
Asset - Knowledge of SEER (Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results Program) Multiple Primary and Histology coding rules and/or SEER Solid Tumor Rules.
- Experience in MAXON Plus, Varian MedOncology, and Enterprise Viewer/Client Registry computer systems
- Ability to speak French
