Job Description - Director

April 12, 2024 DIRECTOR Offshore Safety and Survival Centre Marine Institute (Permanent Position) The Marine Institute's Offshore Safety and Survival Centre (OSSC) is recognized as a leading industry training provider focused offshore survival and firefighting facility, dedicated to providing a wide suite of firefighting and marine safety training programs to mariners, offshore production personnel, individuals involved in shore-based firefighting operations and a variety of new industrial clients. DUTIES Reporting to the Head, School of Maritime Studies and working with a professional and dedicated faculty and staff, the successful applicant will be an integral part of the Marine Institute's management team. Duties include developing, managing and marketing the capabilities of the OSSC and the Safety and Emergency Response Training (SERT) Centre in Stephenville, NL, in response to the needs, both nationally and internationally, of the marine transportation, offshore and onshore energy, marine technology and fishing industries; developing and maintaining close working relationships with Canadian and international regulatory agencies; developing strategic initiatives and alliances with relevant industrial sectors; providing leadership to the redevelopment of research initiatives related to offshore safety and survival; developing the human resource capabilities of existing and new personnel; developing and managing the centre's operating budget; and performing other related duties as required. QUALIFICATIONS Considerable experience (8-10 years) of relevant industry experience, preferably in a managerial capacity; graduation with a relevant undergraduate degree. Extensive knowledge of the marine and offshore energy industries and familiarity with relevant national and international regulations are required. A proven track record in identifying new opportunities and initiatives and recognizing the importance of client service are also required. Previous teaching/education experience, particularly as related to safety management is an asset. We are seeking an individual with a managerial style that is participative yet decisive, who recognizes the importance of team building and who possesses demonstrated organizational, budgetary and planning abilities. Senior marine certification would be seen as an asset but not a requirement. SALARY Commensurate with qualifications and experience. CLOSING DATE May 17, 2024 COMPETITION NO.
