Job Description - Distribution Center Manager

Position Summary:

The Distribution Center Manager will assist in the execution of the daily operating plan and management of 24/7 a multi -temperature, technology-driven, highly customer-focused warehouse and transportation operations. Successful candidates will be recognized as the next generation of Martin Brower Operations Management leaders. The Distribution Center Manager, with support and coaching from the Regional Director, Operations, will be responsible for meeting their specific location’s objectives , managing the many different facets within the distribution centre which includes warehouse, tansportation , customer relations, finance, purchasing and developing employees.

Position Responsibilities may include, but not limited to:

  • Lead and ensure a safe working environment for all employees in 24/7 operations  environment
  • Provide direction and leadership to the Transportation Manager and Warehouse Manager
  • Execute company processes successfully to ensure 100% compliance, ensure annual performance goals are met or exceeded
  • Participate in the development of budgets, P&L Statements
  • Present and communicate   key metrics and information to both  customer and employee meetings
  • Foster a work environment that maximizes employee involvement, morale and engagement
  • Ensure quality standards are achieved for all goods shipped and received
  • Drive the resolutions of services challenges the maximum satisfaction of our customer(s)
  • Participate in, contribute to and potentially lead  various committees, such as quality and safety
  • Cross train key areas of functionality within the Warehouse and Transportation Departments to create greater management depth and centre efficiency
  • Accelerate the  performance and development of direct reports – assess capabilities, develop plan to strengthen skills through effective coaching and mentoring
  • Conduct performance reviews of direct reports – recommend salary increases, promotions etc.
  • Ensure operations are properly staffed and schedules meet operational requirements
  • Assist in the development and regular updating of training plans and ensure effective implementation and use of resources
  • In consultation with Human Resources maintain positive labour relations by resolving grievances, discipline, employee concerns, etc., within the parameters of the collective agreement
  • Travel periodically for annual meetings or other Distribution Centers as needed
  • Be a champion of change, contribute to the strategic direction of facility initiatives
  • Any other duties as assigned

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in business, engineering, logistics or related field
  • Minimum eight years experience in a leadership role with full accountability for Profit & Loss, people development, customer relations and a proven track record of accomplishment, team building and growth 
  • Must have industry experience specifically in a distribution environment
  • Achieves positive results through strong process-orientation skills
  • High initiative, self- motivation and strong leadership qualities
  • Excellent time management skills, ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong, interactive team player
  • Integrative thinker and excellent problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Exhibit a sense of urgency and focus on results
  • Demonstrate business and financial acumen, experience managing budgets and P&L statements with strong analytical skills
  • Professional self-presentation skills, ability to interact effectively at all levels
  • Proven track record of developing successful customer/business partnerships
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate business needs, think proactively and respond appropriately
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite with intermediate Excel skills

Preferred Experience:

  • Food Distribution experience a plus
  • Experience leading a unionized team
