Early Childhood Development Specialist
The Opportunity:

The MBCHC is hiring a knowledgeable, collaborative, and results oriented individual to fill the role of Early Childhood Specialist.
The Position:
The Early Childhood Specialist will work in an integrated setting that serves children 0 to 5 years and their families. Children will have abilities that include challenges in physical, developmental, communication, autism and/or the experience of trauma.
A strong knowledge of child development theory and current practices in curriculum development will enable the Early Childhood Educator to develop, plan and implement group and individual programming through play based opportunities and activities.
Key Responsibilities
• The Early Childhood Educator supports the Vision, Mission and values of the organization.
• Partners with families to ensure that family centered care is reflected in all approaches and methods to suit the individual needs, expectation and wishes of the client and family
• Is part of an interdisciplinary team that includes Physicians, Therapists/specialists (OT, PT, SLP, CDA, Child Psychology) working collaboratively in all aspects of client centered care
• Uses formal and informal assessment tools and keen observation to design individual plans
• Working with other Agencies, both within and outside of our community, that focus on child and family development (i.e.. FireFly, , Childcare centres, Nursery School, Tikinagan, Child & Family Services, etc.)
• Integrates goals of other disciplines
• Bases practice on established policies and procedures as per Child Care and Early Years Act and MBCHC policies
• Communicates in a timely and effective manner with families and team members
• Attends and participates in staff meeting, professional development opportunities, improvement initiatives, and supports a safe and healthy work environment
• Demonstrates creative approach to problem solving and decision making
Qualifications:
Education
• A degree and/or diploma in Early Childhood Education or an Early Childhood Education Resource teacher Certificate
• A registered member in good standing of the College of Early Childhood Educators
• Preferably 2 years of experience in the field of Early Childhood Education that includes working with children with special needs
• Working knowledge of the Child Care and Early Years Act, The College of Early Childhood Education Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Current First Aid and BCLS Certificate – Basic Rescuer (C)
• Bilingualism considered an asset French, English, Ojibway/Cree
• Current immunization or a letter in file stating an exemption.
Work environment:
• Mary Berglund Community Health Centre, Ignace, Ontario
• Full time equivalent hours of work: Occasional evening and weekend work required
