Duties

The position will focus on program and project management related to energy reduction environmental commitments and implementing energy efficiency projects and measures to reduce AAFC's portfolio carbon footprint. The successful candidate will work as part of a team of engineers and scientists who oversee the implementation of environmental projects and programs at federal properties across Canada. Some duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
  • Conduct data analysis and prepare reports regarding greenhouse gas emissions and energy usage.
  • Manage energy efficiency projects to reduce AAFC's carbon footprint. This includes managing consultants and contractors, working with contracts and budgets.
  • Generate initiatives to increase employee awareness with regards to energy and environmental issues.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff one permanent position with a language profile of English Essential. A pool of qualified and partially qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions in various locations, with various tenures as well as various linguistic requirements. In the event that an employee of the public service is qualified through this process, they may be considered for acting, deployment, assignment or secondment opportunities.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education and Occupational Certification:
  • Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical engineering or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position
OR
  • Eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada with specialization in an engineering specialty relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
  • Recent and significant experience* providing mechanical engineering services related to the energy efficiency design, construction or operation of mechanical equipment and mechanical systems.
  • Recent and significant experience* in energy performance analysis.
  • Experience in preparing and writing technical reports.
  • Recent and significant experience means at least two (2) years of experience acquired in the past five (5) years.
