Job Description As Environmental Advisor, you will be closely involved in the implementation and maintenance of an environmental management system based on the ISO 14001:2015 standard. More specifically you will;
- Organize sampling according to operational needs and the relevant authorities’ protocols.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
- Develop and revise procedures, measurement methods and other documents pertaining to environmental management.
- Ensure compliance with applicable environmental policies, standards and programs.
- Perform workplace inspections to ensure compliance with applicable procedures and instructions.
- Make recommendations following inspections to comply with both external regulations and internal requirements.
- Present reports and make recommendations to the Environmental Manager.
- Participate in the implementation of preventive and corrective actions for the environmental management system.
- Respond to environmental emergencies, conduct investigations and prepare incident reports.
- Contact regulatory agencies such as the MELCC, the DFO and the MFFP.
- Handle complaints from neighbours.
- Develop and provide environmental training.
- Take on-call evening and weekend duties as requested by their supervisor.
- Perform internal audits on ISO 9001:2015 and ISO14001:2015 certified management system procedures.
- Participate in meetings with the Production Department, take part in discussions and make recommendations.
- Prepare authorization requests to government organizations.
- Implement Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) within assigned responsibilities.
- Participate in improving the facility’s environmental management.
- Manage environmental projects on site and subcontractors assigned to the project.
- Perform any other tasks related to their duties as requested by their supervisor.
Qualifications - DCS or bachelor’s degree in engineering, environment, biology, chemistry or other related discipline.
- Internal auditor certification.
- At least eight years of relevant work experience.
- Knowledge of industrial and/or shipbuilding sectors would be considered an asset.
- Strong ability to lead meetings and training sessions, oral presentation skills.
- Excellent writing skills, report and procedure writing abilities.
- Have participated in the implementation of ISO 14001: 2015 within the company.
- Intermediate knowledge of English, as the incumbent will be interacting with our English-speaking clients.
- Knowledge of site characterization protocols.
- Excellent understanding of environmental standards management and legislation.
- Experience in the process of applying for certificates of authorization.
To be selected, you must undergo the investigation and security clearance process required under the federal government’s Contract Security Program.
