The Team

The Wealth ETL team within the Scotiabank Wealth Management technology area is key to meeting the operational data needs of the various stake holders within Wealth Management.

The successful candidate will be working with cutting edge technology in a large enterprise environment. Supporting multiple business lines, the candidate will be exposed to various groups within Wealth Management.

 

The Role

  • Leading development efforts in ingesting and transforming data from various sources. Building scripts, writing specifications and responsible for end-to-end delivery of data
  • Develop ETL code and build packages based on existing standards and suggest improvements when possible
  • Develop and test code from design specifications, as well as implement and support enhancements to applications
  • Provide technical expertise in medium to complex projects as a Technical Lead capable of providing guidance and advise to the team
  • Has some hands-on experience working in an agile environment and knowledge of waterfall as a methodology in team and organization standards.
  • Works in close collaboration with Architects and other cross functional team members in creating design documents, outlining overview, diagrams, technical requirements and solution that best addresses a business need.
  • Participate in technical discussions, client meetings and presentation of solutions to the technical team members as well as Business
  • Participate in code review of peers and junior team members and recommend suggestions for improvement where appropriate to ensure high quality product
  • Provide leadership in production support issues and carry after-hours support phone on a rotational basis

 

Is this role right for you?

  • The incumbent is responsible for research and analysis leading to the definition of requirements and processes to assist in the resolution.
  • Assist the Senior Manager/Project Manager in resolving highly complex, multi-faceted problems to meet the needs of the supported Line of Business, by applying their financial and technological knowledge to the design of methodologies, models, and/or systems solutions for various Scotia Wealth data transfer / data integration projects.
  • This may involve rapid prototyping, with requirements and solutions developed on an iterative basis that provides interim deliverables until a final production solution is created
  • This includes conducting research and analysis, accurately and clearly defining user requirements and processes, and liaising with the users.
  • The incumbent is also responsible for participating in the testing of new systems or enhancements, the training of users, and providing ongoing support to all supported units worldwide. This is made more challenging due to differences in time zones and the variation in the business lines.
  • Participate in the systems implementation process by developing test cases, performing testing, defining user procedures and workflows, developing conversion and implementation strategies, verifying conversion, providing user documentation, providing user training, and providing post-implementation support.
  • The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that management is kept informed and that problems and issues are escalated appropriately.
  • The incumbent must remain current and aware of all trends in technology.
  • Continually acquire and enhance knowledge of the Division's business strategies and policies, risk management practices and methodologies, product offerings, financial markets, financial instruments, regulatory requirements, Back Office processes, and rapidly changing technology to be able to provide effective business solutions and services to the end user business lines.
  • This position requires excellent communication (written/oral) skills, time management and project management experience.

 

Do you have the skills?

  • The incumbent must be a creative, self-starting, results-oriented, and highly motivated individual with very good analytical skills to apply this knowledge to assist in the resolution of complex business problems.
  • 5+ years of ETL experience using ETL tools specifically DataStage and Talend.
  • 5 + years reading and writing SQL Queries
  • 3 to 5+ years’ experience with relational databases with a good knowledge of SQL Scripting, database structures, principles and design theories is a must have
  • Must have some working knowledge with methods of release Management, change management and code promotion.
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as computer science, computer engineering or related field required
  • Nice to have experience in Wealth Management industry.
  • Good knowledge of financial instruments, including market conventions and valuation methods, and risk management methodologies and models including best practices, current and anticipated regulatory requirement will be an asset.
