Job Description - Financial Controller

Our client is a dynamic, growing values-based organization.  They were named on of BC’s top employers earlier this year.  The current opening is due to growth.  The Financial Controller will report to the CFO and will oversee seven union accounting staff and three non-union staff.  To be successful in this role you must thrive in a fast-paced, high growth environment, have immaculate attention to detail, high analytical skills and demonstrate the ability to problem solve and work independently.  This is a management role and also hand-on.

Remote working arrangements will be considered for experienced candidates who are living in BC and have previous experience leading a remote accounting and finance team.  Our client has offices throughout BC with main offices in Prince Rupert and Campbel River.

Ideal candidate will come from a utilities, telecom or high transactional business.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare on time monthly financial statements and related reports
  • Multi entity consolidation and financial statement preparation at entity level
  • Maintain accurate books and records of multiple entities – full cycle accounting and journal entries
  • Develop systems and processes to aid in accurate financial reporting
  • Prepare cash and financial forecasts
  • Ensure accuracy of GST and PST filings
  • Complete regulatory reporting on time and accurately
  • Work with external auditors – prepare all audit materials and be principal liaison with auditors
  • Ensure that accounting activities are in accordance with agreements, policies and procedures, and controls
  • Train and manage the workload of a team of accountants
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 10 years of work experience in a senior capacity
  • CPA designation
  • Experience managing teams at all levels
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of all aspects of full cycle corporate accounting and financial statement preparation
  • Working knowledge of all relevant Federal, Provincial and local sales tax requirements
  • Experience preparing financials, supporting documents, consolidations, budgeting and forecasting
  • Experience accounting for multiple entities
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel
  • Ideal candidate will come from telecom, utilities or other high transactional business
  • Resourceful and common sense.
