Job Description - Purchasing Manager

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

CPKC is looking for an outgoing, self-motivated individual with the ability to demonstrate leadership and manage competing priorities in a fast paced operating environment of a world class railroad. This position, Purchasing Manager, will be based in Calgary AB, and will be responsible for providing leadership to the purchasing team across the CPKC network. The position will be accountable for leading a team of buyer analysts and specialists who are creating POs, managing vendors, working with accounts payable as well as working with business stakeholders for all CPKC inventoried materials and most of the company’s services. To be qualified for this role, the candidate will have strong background in procure to pay processes in SAP, will have experience with release orders off contract/ catalogues, will have optimized SAP MM to make purchasing as efficient as possible, be well versed on managing a transactional team; and have excellent customer service and people management skills.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

This position will:

  • Lead, coach, and develop the Purchasing team to build a strong, pro-active and knowledgeable team
  • Implement best practice materials purchasing processes at the for all categories of spend
  • Lead process improvement and technology enablement projects through providing leadership and change management support
  • Improve Requisition to PO cycle time as well as inventory stock by getting the most automation from the purchasing system
  • Foster an environment centered on providing superior customer service and the complete satisfaction of our internal customers

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 5-7 years of relevant purchasing experience as part of a transactional purchasing team
  • At least 2-3 years’ experience managing transactional procurement team
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Understanding of SAP MM, inventory MRP processes
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Expertise with Windows and Microsoft Office, Intermediate to advanced capabilities with Excel (pivot tables, Power Pivot, etc.). Ability to use databases.
  • Strong decision making and problem solving skills
  • Positive and enthusiastic work ethic and attitude

Management Conductor Program:

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CP. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
