Job Description - Quality Assurance Manager

  • $85,000 to $100,000 plus bonus

In this role, you will be responsible for managing the day to day operation of the Quality Assurance team to provide confidence that quality requirements will be fulfilled to internal quality, regulatory and customer expectations. This includes audits and non-conformance prevention (defect prevention). This position will report to Director, Food Safety and Quality and provide decision-making support for Quality Assurance. This will include direct management of the QA Coordinator & QA Supervisor and their direct reports (Quality Analysts/ Inspectors), a total 6 to 10 direct reports. What You Will Be Doing...
  • Manage the activities of the QA Coordinator and QA Supervisor to ensure products are manufactured to meet company standards, customer specifications and regulatory requirements. This includes overall responsibility for Food Safety Plans, CAPA programs, held inventory, positive release and related verification activities.
  • Ensure compliance to applicable Quality and Regulatory standards including CFIA, SQF, HACCP, FSMA and any other related quality management systems
  • Act as a representative of the company during government and facility, program and record review audits
  • Liaison with customers, through participation in audits, timely response to information requests and general customer support
  • Act as a site SQF Practitioner and Preventative Controls Qualified Individual
  • Lead and oversee the development, implementation, and on-going maintenance of the SQF system as outlined in HR-PL-01-002 Management Responsibility.
  • Employee Coaching / Training – assist with training of employees as it relates to implementation and compliance to the Quality system
  • Provide leadership and support to factory operations to produce quality products, right the first time and ensure requirements are met prior to product release.
  • Maintain system of non-conforming stock segregation including timely evaluation and disposition
  • Support elements of the internal audit program and use observations to continuously improve product quality and program compliance
  • Manage and respond to customer concerns by providing product information and support for resolution of product issues
  • Work with R&D & QC staff to define raw material quality programs to minimize negative impact on manufacturing operations. This includes COA and incoming material inspection programs.
  • Work with Operations, R&D, QC and Vendors to manage Supplier Corrective Action Requests through to closure
Why this is the right job for you…
  • A degree in a related field with a minimum of 5 years supervisory experience in the food industry.
  • Familiarity with applicable regulatory and customer audit standards (i.e. CFIA, FSMA, SQF, etc.)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Solid computer skills – Microsoft Office, SAP
  • Knowledge of canning processes (completion of Better Process Control School)
  • Experienced SQF Practitioner
  • Understanding of food plant sanitation and pest control programs
  • Able to assess risk and implement effective mitigation strategies
