The mandate of the Health Economics and Funding Unit (Health System Value branch) includes actively exploring, understanding and modeling the behaviour of individuals, groups, and providers in the use of the health resources in Alberta. The Health Funding team maintains multiple key health economic and financial datasets which are used for analysis and forecasting to promote economic efficiency and sustainability across health programs and sectors.

Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Health Funding, the Information Coordinator will be responsible for the following:

• Coordinate primary data collection for the Financial Information Reporting Management System (FIRMS). This position is the primary point of contact for information submitters across continuing care and home care organizations, reviewing compliance of financial and statistical submissions and overseeing data retrieval processes on the user portal website.

• Design and implement new features and fields in the FIRMS Excel reporting templates, user portal website, and internal datasets to ensure that financial and statistical measures and indicators (such as continuing care program costs and revenues) are appropriate and available for the reporting and program needs of the department.

• Develop content management system and website for the branch. This would include; creating a new SharePoint site as well as developing management guidelines to store and access to diverse branch data.

• Support quantitative and qualitative analysis in collaboration with the Manager and senior branch staff on health system funding flows (for hospitals, continuing care and other sectors) and indicators such as per capita health expenditure.

The position must exercise judgement in disseminating appropriate information to internal and external stakeholders according to existing legislation including the Health Information Act .

Qualifications

University degree in related field such as Business/Commerce, Arts, Social Sciences, Health Information Management, and no experience required.

Equivalency:
Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.

The following are considered assets to the position:
• Intermediate computer software and application skills including MS Excel, MS Word, MS Visio, MS PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, SharePoint.
• Working knowledge of economic and accounting principles, preparation of financial statements, budget and financial reporting processes.
• Experience extracting relevant information and synthesizing quantitative and qualitative data from a variety of sources (databases and tables, government and academic publications, websites, financial statements, etc.) in order to communicate the findings and written and verbal formats.
• Knowledge of Government of Alberta and ministry policies, procedures, legislation and business plans and planning guidelines.
• Working knowledge of contracting and procurement processes and policies.

Hours of Work
7.25 hours daily/ 36.25 hours weekly, Monday to Friday


Location
ATB Place North, 10025 Jasper Avenue, Edmonton Alberta, T5J 1S6. This position requires working from the office with an option to qualify for a hybrid work arrangement (in accordance with GOA policy whereby up to two days working from home may be possible).
