Role Responsibilities

We are seeking a dynamic individual to fill the senior position of Information Specialist within our Forestry Division. Reporting directly to the Information Unit Manager, this role is pivotal in advancing our objectives of continuous improvement and maintaining effective internal communications and consistency of data.

As the Information Specialist, you will be at the forefront of researching, preparing, coordinating, and disseminating statistics and information pertinent to forestry issues, with a specialized focus on wildfire management. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the provision of timely, accurate, and essential information related to wildfires, contributing to updates and briefing materials on emerging issues within our department.

Your role will involve researching and tracking initiatives, providing regular status reports to support the effective delivery of forestry programs, and ensuring consistency of data and messaging across the board. Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate integrated information updates to support Forestry Division in achieving successful outcomes.
  • Support the Branch in consistent and accurate collection, storing and sharing of data.
  • Develop networks to ensure fast and accurate information gathering.
  • Support the assessment and evaluation of existing and emerging wildfire and forest management strategies.


As the Information Specialist, you will collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders, assess issues, determine priorities, research, coordinate supporting information, and take appropriate actions to contribute to the success of our Forestry Division. Qualifications

Education:

  • University graduation in Social science, Communications, Environmental Studies/Sciences, Public Policy or related fields/equivalencies plus 4 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.
  • Directly related experience and or education may be considered on a one-for-one basis.

Assets:

  • In-depth understanding of government business plans, goals, and policy directions.
  • Familiarity with Ministry business plan goals, strategic priorities, accountability processes, issues, programs, and available resources.
  • Proficiency in issues management methodologies, practices, and principles
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Experience with research methods for data collection and analysis, enabling informed decision-making and strategic planning.

Notes

One permanent full time position with standard weekly hours of 36.25 Monday to Friday and one temporary wage seasonal position with weekly hours up to 36.25. The incumbent may be requested to work overtime, evening and weekends due to the emergency nature of wildfires.

Travel throughout the province may be required as part of your responsibilities to coordinate with Ministry staff and colleagues, other government departments, clients, and other stakeholders.

What We Offer for Seasonal position:

  • Wage employees receive 11.2% in addition to regular wage earnings in lieu of paid holidays and vacation leave:    
    • 5.2 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays    
    • 6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay.    
  • Shift differential and opportunity to work overtime, evening, and weekend shifts.
