The Opportunity:
McElhanney is looking for a Survey Assistant to join our team in Edson, AB. This is a great opportunity for a dedicated person who thrives in outdoor settings and seeks practical experience in surveying. Under the supervision of a Field Supervisor, you'll support the survey team to ensure surveys and assignments are completed promptly and efficiently to meet contractual and legal requirements.
The ability to travel and work out of town is expected and pre-employment drug & alcohol and fitness for work testing is required. This role is designated as a safety sensitive position.
Hourly Range: $18.25 to $26.90 per hour. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate. What You Can Expect:
  • Overtime earned at time and a half

  • Opportunity to develop skills using survey instruments with a view to progression
  • Multiyear project work is available in remote locations and locally, though remote work will be necessary at times.
What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Set-up and operation of conventional survey and GPS equipment.
  • Follow directives received from Field Supervisor to assist survey team.
  • Prepare accurate field notes, when required.
  • Clean and maintain equipment, maintain supplies, stock company vehicle, and ensure necessary physical resources are available in the field, with minimal supervision.
  • May be required to use tools and equipment such as chainsaw, axe, sledgehammer, shovel, metal detector , ATV’s and snowmobiles in order to complete assigned tasks.
What You’ll Bring:
  • High school diploma, technical school education and previous experience are assets but not required.
  • Physically fit, able to lift heavy equipment, willing to work in varied environmental conditions, able to work in wildlife populated areas, and willing to work in remote areas for extended periods and varied hours.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to travel out of town for up to 21 consecutive days.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, and general computer knowledge.
  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol and fitness for work testing is required, as well as pre-site access testing as per client requirements
