Job Duties

Saskatchewan Polytechnic is excited to develop a Respiratory Therapy program. In the first two years of this role the primary duties of the role will be coordination of curriculum and development of the program. Upon the launch of the program your responsibilities will shift to work along side our faculty to deliver the program to students.

Curriculum Coordinator (first two years):

Coordinate Ongoing Curriculum Development and Revision

  • Facilitate the ongoing development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the Respiratory Therapy curriculum.
  • In collaboration with the Academic Chair and Program Development Consultant, coordinate, facilitate, and evaluate curriculum models, learning steps, learning activities, evaluation tools and instructional resources.
  • Monitor competency profiles for changes required to be implemented into the curriculum to align with accreditation needs.
  • Convene regular meetings with the Academic Chair and Program Development Consultant to discuss proposed course revisions, course assessment plans and exam blueprints.
  • Monitor revisions and ensure revision documents are completed as per established deadlines.
  • Liaise with the Publishing Department.
  • Ensure approved minor and major revisions are reflected in the program materials.
  • Ensure updated course outlines are uploaded by the professional services staff to School of Health Sciences (course outlines folder) by end of June.
  • Work with the professional services staff to:
    • Maintain current program booklist.
    • In collaboration with Academic Chair, implement necessary curriculum changes related to the new academic model (i.e., alter semester lengths, explore part-time study options).
    • Coordinate with faculty professional development opportunities related to curriculum design, development, implementation, and evaluation.

Program and Course Evaluations

  • Ensure course evaluations are created.
  • Ensure agency evaluations (i.e., clinical sites), and preceptor evaluations are created.
  • Maintain and revise evaluation criteria as required.

Semester Schedules

  • Review Campus semester schedules to ensure course hours match course assessment plans and program requirements.
  • Coordinate room bookings with facilities according to timetable needs.

Transfer Credits

  • Establish, monitor, review, and revise transfer credit documents as needed.

Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition ( PLAR )

  • Ensure PLAR materials are up to date; revise as needed.

Participation in Meetings

  • Participate in program meetings as needed.

Professional Associations

  • Liaise with professional bodies, as necessary.

Health Education Accreditation

  • Coordinate curriculum updates to meet Health Education Accreditation requirements.
  • Participate in meetings with Equal Accreditation Canada as needed.
  • Maintain knowledge of Health Education Accreditation standards and requirements.
  • Participate in the preparation of the self-assessment report for the program approval process.
  • Coordinate clinical site visits with the accreditation team.
  • Coordinate validation documents for accreditation purposes.
  • Plan timelines to ensure program preparation aligns with accreditation deadlines and requirements.
  • Prepare documents for health education accreditation as required.

Miscellaneous

  • Represent the program on committees as required.
  • Prepare documents related to the curriculum as required.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations related to the curriculum as required.
  • Prepare minor and major revision documents as needed.
  • Coordinate and manage projects as necessary for program development.
  • Review annually Saskatchewan Polytechnic website annually for program content and ensure alignment with curriculum and program needs.
  • Coordinate and participate in recruitment events.

Instructor, Respiratory Therapy (ongoing faculty position)

  • Plan and facilitate the delivery of a learning program or course within the Respiratory Therapy Program including providing tutorial, and counselling assistance; facilitating labs, scenario skill practice, small groups and lectures; evaluating course/program and result of the teaching process; and revising/maintaining curriculum. Responsibilities may also include Practicum Coordination for both hospital and ambulance practicum sites.
  • Develop and maintain community/agency partnerships.
  • Manage the learning environment in both classroom and practicum settings.
  • Participate in Program and School related initiatives.
  • Act as a practicum liaison for Respiratory Therapy students and preceptors, assisting with the completion of paperwork or evaluation.
  • Establish and maintain external relationships with counterparts from other educational institutions, simulation lab professionals, vendors, representatives of the community, health industry and health education leaders, nationally and internationally.
  • Establish and maintain internal relationships within Saskatchewan Polytechnic.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE

Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities (QSA)

  1. Degree in Health Sciences, Education, or a relevant field.
  2. Minimum of 3 years’ work experience as a Respiratory Therapist in a variety of clinical areas.
  3. Registered Respiratory Therapist with the Saskatchewan College of Respiratory Therapists ( SCRT ). Membership with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists ( CSRT ) is beneficial.
  4. Aptitude for mentoring and coaching others, previous teaching experience is an asset.
  5. Ability to build effective relationships internally and externally.
  6. Strong written communication skills required to develop new curriculum.
  7. Adaptable to new computer programs and systems, with intermediate proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  8. Comfortable with public speaking, and able to convey course subjects to diverse students and learning styles.
  9. Possess a positive, respectful attitude, and a high commitment to student success and collaboration.
  10. Demonstrates valuing diversity.
