Job Description - Solar Design Specialist

About the Role:

The role of the Solar Design Specialist (Seasonal) will be working under the direct supervision of the Solar Design Team Lead, to effectively provide our clients with accurate information and designs for their residential solar installations.

This position will be on a 3–4-month contract which may start on or before May 2024. This is an ideal opportunity for post secondary students who want to hone their skills during the summer. Successful candidates may be located in Calgary or Edmonton.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Monitoring of project deliverables to ensure they are provided to our clients meeting our quality standards, on time and on budget.
  • Follow up with design team and other departments to resolve questions and issues.
  • Work cooperatively within a team of designers in conjunction with sales and operations departments to develop and improve process to help the organization meet its goals.
  • Coordination of electronic filing system, folder structure and file management.
  • Effectively communicate the status of tasks, design changes and continuous improvement items to the design team and Management.
  • Review of drawings and designs for accuracy, completeness and consistency.
  • Design and quote Solar PV systems using Aurora solar modelling software. (approximately 15 projects will be designed and priced per day);
  • Create designs for solar projects by understanding and interpreting information provided by the customer such as energy usage, electrical infrastructure, and energy goals;
  • Develop residential pricing for all designed projects;
  • Review and interpret client provided information to develop the most appropriate solar design;
  • Other relevant duties and responsibilities.

Requirements:

  • Computer literacy with the ability to learn new software quickly.
  • Ideal for Engineering students who are looking to gain real-world experience to complement their studies.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Exceptional communication skills – both verbal & written (ensure clear communication with client and team members).
  • Ability to deal with short deadlines in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
  • Flexible and weekend availability required.
  • Self-Motivated and self-driven with the ability to anticipate, identify and complete tasks without being asked.
  • Experience with electrical prints and diagrams, blueprints and schematics is an asset.
  • Able to reliably commute to our office.
