Job Description - Structural Engineer

Location: Various locations across BC

Overview: As a Structural Engineer you will analyze and design the structural integrity of buildings and other structures ensuring they can withstand various loads and forces.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and analyze structural components of buildings and infrastructure.
  • Use computeraided design software for structural analysis.
  • Ensure projects comply with safety standards and building codes.
  • Inspect construction sites to monitor progress and ensure compliance with design specifications.
  • Provide technical advice to construction teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor s degree in Structural Engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis software.
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.

Requirements Thorough knowledge of principles and practices related to the trades inspectional field of responsibility. Thorough knowledge of the relevant municipal bylaws and provincial regulations, codes and standards. Considerable knowledge of the departmental policies, procedures and practices related to the work. Ability to understand, interpret and apply the BC Building Code, bylaws, regulations, plans and specifications, to recognize technical requirements and to suggest changes and corrections as required. Ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of subordinate staff. Ability to read, understand and interpret plans and specifications; recognize technical requirements and suggest and enforce changes or corrections as required. Ability to recognize faulty construction or hazardous conditions pertaining to structural stability of buildings. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts and to enforce regulations and codes with fairness, impartiality and good judgement. Ability to assist in developing policies and procedures and to prepare a variety of reports related to the work.
