The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation is responsible for the policies, legislation, regulations, programs, and services that enable Alberta’s agriculture and food sectors to flourish and contribute to Alberta’s economic recovery and growth. The ministry’s role is diverse, ranging from food safety and industry growth and diversification to increasing investment and supporting growth in rural Alberta. For more information about the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation please visit our website at: The Animal Health and Assurance Branch (AHAB) consists of the Office of the Executive Director, Office of the Chief Provincial Veterinarian and three sections: Inspection and Investigation, Animal Health, Animal Welfare and Traceability.
AHAB works closely with Alberta’s livestock industries to ensure that the province has:
Animal Health Surveillance Unit is staffed by veterinarians, veterinary technologists, data and mapping analysts and policy advisors. We do animal health surveillance, with industry, and in response to reportable disease. We work with industry, producers, and municipalities to understand and test for diseases that are risks to animals, food safety or people.
