Job Description - Vice Dean

FACULTY OF SKILLS AND FOUNDATIONAL LEARNING

NorQuesters are difference makers and we’re searching for someone dedicated to finding ways forward to join our Faculty of Skills and Foundational Learning as a Vice Dean. The Vice Dean reports to the Dean and has responsibility for managing Faculty operations and for providing strategic leadership within the faculty and at the college level. As second in command to the Dean, the Vice Dean will be called upon to provide faculty leadership in the absence of the Dean. While maintaining strong internal liaison functions, the Vice Dean will ensure the faculty’s program quality, enrolment, resources, and student success needs are shared with colleagues. This position will also ensure the operational and strategic support is provided by the faculty to move college priorities forward. The Vice Dean also has an external focus working with stakeholders and representing the College on external higher education and content specific forums, especially as it pertains to program quality and the student experience. This external liaison is critical to remaining a leader in our fields of subject matter expertise, professional contribution, strategic partnerships, contract negotiations, and innovative programming.

HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

  • Fulfil the division’s operational plan, including measures and reporting such as:
  • Meet the targets of the college’s enrolment plan.
  • Prepare and operate within an approved budget.
  • Meet alternative revenue targets.
  • Implement the Academic Plan.
  • Complete faculty led research and innovation and other roles and projects as required.
  • Facilitate strategic planning and implementation within the program area and contribute to the college planning.
  • Provide Faculty and college leadership to specified programs, committees, projects, and initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain connections with stakeholders related to adult education and Faculty areas of specialization. This entails participating in various working groups, boards, forums, knowledge sharing, and mobilization events.
  • Represent the college on relevant groups, at conferences, and in special sessions as assigned.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the Program Managers to ensure consistency and success of the faculty and with the other Vice Deans to ensure consistency and success of the Academic portfolio.
  • Lead the establishment of applied research, alternative revenue opportunities, innovative partnerships, and contract training initiatives that align with the college’s mandate, vision, and educational goals.
  • Provide leadership in the absence of the Dean.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Related master’s degree, or a combination of education and direct equivalent and progressive experience.
  • Significant and related experience in senior post-secondary administration, including experience in program development and administration.
  • Knowledge and understanding of foundational learning matters (including cultural, socio-economic, and other factors) affecting Indigenous people, Newcomers, and other excluded populations.
  • Demonstrated capacity to lead in matters relating to advancing the college’s strategic priorities.
  • Demonstrated success in collaboratively developing and implementing a vision and guiding people to achieve exemplary performance and outcomes.
  • Thorough understanding of the theory and practice of adult learning, particularly foundational learning.

  • Working knowledge of computer applications (specifically, MS Office suite, including Teams and Microsoft BI).
  • Working knowledge of project management would be an asset.
  • Working understanding of competency-based credentials would be an asset.
  • Teaching experience in a post-secondary environment.
SALARY: $111,219-$139,052 annually, reflective upon what you bring, AKA your education and experience. This is a full-time permanent position with immediate access to our great pension and benefit programs.
