Unit Summary

Come join Hamilton Health Science’s (HHSC) innovative Analytics & Business Solutions (ABS) team, supporting our leaders with data and analytics for informed decision-making. Our skilled team integrates disparate data sources, and builds and maintains our suite of Tableau visualizations, enabling timely access to accurate, high quality and relevant information for decision-making. Our data is diverse, complex and big, with tremendous potential to support continued improvements in patient outcomes, and operational and financial efficiencies.

If you enjoy working with data to create high-impact analytics, and are a skilled team leader with experience as a senior business and data analyst, this is the ideal position for you. You will lead a team of 4-6 Sr. Business Analysts (Sr. BA’s) and Business Solution Analysts (BSA’s) to elicit and document analytics requirements and ultimately create and deliver the required dashboards using Tableau, to support evidence informed decision-making at HHSC.

We organize our work into multiple streams by subject area (Patient, Labour, Financial, etc.) each led by a Sr. Business Analyst. You will take direct responsibility for one such stream, supported by a BSA, to deliver our analytics roadmap for that stream. Over time, you will encounter data from all areas of hospital activity and operations, as our teams rotate through different subject areas and projects.

The successful candidate will have the following accountabilities:

1. Line management responsibilities for the Business Analysis (BA) team

  • Typically 4 to 6 staff, including Sr. BA’s and BSA’s
  • Provide daily guidance to team for analytical priorities
  • Mentor and coach team members to grow and develop their acumen as BA’s
  • Establish and evaluate cascading annual objectives and learning plans
  • Recruitment, retention and hiring as required

2. Business Analysis process and standards for Sr. BA’s and BSA’s

  • Set standards and process for how the BA team performs their standard work
  • With BA and BI team leadership, assign resources for the development of analytics products in keeping with global priority list and available skill-sets
  • With the BA and BI teams, create project plans and other project artefacts to guide delivery of analytics priorities on time and within scope
  • Review the work of BA’s and BSA’s to ensure high quality and continuous improvement
  • Identify and resolve blockers to progress as early as possible

3. Stakeholder relationship management and analytics vision, strategy and priorities

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with analytics stakeholders across HHSC
  • Understand stakeholder’s business and goals to ensure we are addressing needs
  • Ensure stakeholders receive excellent customer service in keeping with ABS standards
  • Negotiate product scope with stakeholders to ensure appropriate value is delivered
  • Contribute to and promote HHSC’s analytics vision and strategy

4. Manage, maintain and report on the priority list and related planning artefacts

  • With the Manager ABS and Product Lead, contribute to the management of the global priority list, prioritization of new requests and organization of the Jira product backlog
  • With the Product Lead, ensure product sponsors understand how priorities are scored and the current position of their requested analytical product’s on the global priority list
  • With the Sr. BA’s and BSA’s, develop project plans for each priority and report on product development progress

5. Participate in the Technical design and standards for new analytics products

  • Identify new features within (or outside of) our current technology stack (Tableau/SQL/CPM Web Suite) that could help us better serve our stakeholders
  • Ensure complex techniques are documented and that all members of the ABS team are capable of using these techniques for a consistent technical approach across the team
  • Remain current with emerging analytics techniques and tools and seek opportunities to improve our process, technologies and analytics offerings

Schedule Work Hours

Days, Monday to Friday with willingness to be flexible with working hours to suit organizational needs.

  1. Bachelor’s degree in business, science, math, computer or software engineering required2. Master’s degree considered an asset (MBA/Computer Science/Engineering) 3. 5+ years as Sr. Business Analyst 4. 5+ years supporting data-warehousing / big-data project business requirements5. 5+ years supporting reporting / report development / data visualization / data-science6. 3+ years exposure to data quality management / data governance7. Healthcare experience is preferred (any position related to systems, system development, data or reporting)8. Experience leading/influencing a team of professionals is preferred9. Experience engaging customers/stakeholders, assessing needs, developing and executing a product strategy roadmap 10. Familiarity with leading business intelligence solutions such as Tableau, Power BI, Qlik11. A creative, solution-focused problem solver, with the energy and tenacity to work through a complex systems with multiple challenges.12. Ability to work well under pressure, with strong organizational skills that enable the management of multiple and competing priorities13. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the proven ability to build relationships, evangelize the analytics program and influence across the organization
