What is the opportunity?

This is an opportunity to work at RBC Insurance Active Data Platform team with a group of technology specialists dedicated to deliver solution to Insurance business and clients. We are all in with Agile development, DevOps, Open Source, Software as a Service (SaaS) and modern tools and processes . You will have an opportunity to make a real difference by working on some impactful and meaningful projects.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Data Engineer who has deep understanding of data management principles, modern data stack, cloud computing and ability to apply them in practical, business-focused context . Partners across IT and with assigned business line(s) to assess, research, and analyze business, technical and system needs in order to resolve business systems issues. Recommends technology solutions that meet sponsor / stakeholder needs. Acts as primary IT liaison with multiple interfacing applications, third party vendors, IT Executives, and/or Project Managers

Our applications are used by RBC staff and clients making your contributions highly impactful and visible, directly contributing to the success of RBC. We deliver digitally enabled applications that are both internal and internet facing. We build cloud data lakehouse, stable web, and back-end applications which are resilient, scalable and high performance that avoids failure and focused on delivering best client experience. We continuously update our tech skills and upgrade our platforms to match industry standards.

What will you do?

  • Partner with the RBC Insurance Data Office to review requirements in order to determine project scope, expected outcome, begin design/build and implement solutions leveraging appropriate infrastructure (new or existing);

  • Implement data processes for the Data Warehouse and production systems, design and implement ETL processes. Promote and ensure designs and code adhere to best practices, regulations, security and risk standards.

  • Manage and update Data Engineering architecture, analyze data and communicate insights to stakeholders

  • Develop processes to support operationalization of data sets and models for use within RBC Insurance;

  • Lead a team of data engineers, collaborate with data architects, data analysts to determine design needs and best practices with sufficient process automation. Ensure solution are maintainable, scalable in production.

  • Identify potential new and innovative technologies which could benefit RBC Insurance and build, test and assess feasibility for current or future use;

  • Ability to determine alternative methods and processes in order to best support RBC Insurance Application and Data needs;

What do you need to succeed?

Must Have

  • In depth knowledge on modern data stack,  and working experience in data engineering, data systems development or related roles including working with Snowflake platform

  • Proficiency in data warehousing, relational databases, modern data stack and ETL technologies, understanding of database security and compliance tools

  • Ability to build, maintain and improve upon data architecture and data systems, with knowledge and understanding of batch, streaming, processing and containerization.

  • Experience in cloud computing technologies, working knowledge of computer programming languages (Java, Python, R, Scala)

  • Experience on multiple projects with multiple interfaces and/or third parties. Successfully and simultaneously managed multiple projects with emphasis on High Impact, High Business Risk, Uncertain Business Requirements and New Technology

  • Proving ability to lead the team of engineers, provide guidance in a timeline manner, communicate clearly with business stakeholders; Good at document existing processes and keep them updated.
