Job Description - Service Technician Field/Shop

The Service Technician will be responsible for the diagnosis and repair of Material Handling equipment including electric power and internal combustion engine forklifts and other such equipment. The Service Technician is based out of the Surrey office and works 40 hours on average per week Monday to Friday. Some travel may be required, as assigned. Key Responsibilities:
  • Diagnosis and repair of equipment.
  • Perform routine scheduled Planned Maintenance (PM) services, appraisals and Safety Inspections.
  • Complete all necessary time card and report documentation as required.
  • Complete shop or road work as required by Supervisor’s direction when required.
  • Communicate repair status and requirements with customers and Supervisors alike.
  • Excel the ‘customer experience’ by being professional at all times.
  • Order and track all parts request to meet the customer expectation.
  • Complete jobs, as assigned. Some out of town at customer site visits might be required.
  • Proactively seek opportunities to grow customer accounts while carrying out your duties.
  • Other related duties, as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Previous aerial and lift truck experience ideal but not essential.
  • Strong trouble shooting skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to contribute positively to the team environment.
  • Willingness and desire to learn.
  • A proactive autonomous individual able to set own standards and succeed.
  • Physical capabilities necessary to perform duties of the position (lifting & mobility).
  • Must be willing to travel and complete jobs out of town as assigned.
Training, Education and Experience:
  • Red Seal Heavy-Duty Equipment certification or equivalent experienced in small construction and material handling with consistent exceptional customer service skills.
  • General ability to carry out diagnostics and repairs on Spark Ignition LPG engines and systems, Compression Ignition engines, Hydraulic and electrical systems as well as reading schematics from each.
Compensation Package:  
  • This is a Unionized position, and the successful candidate will enjoy a competitive remuneration package with the benefits of having membership in the International Union of Operating Engineers.
  • Hourly wages of up to $41.33 as per Collective Agreement .
  • 2 weeks of vacation.
