Please note in order to apply for this requisition you need to be enrolled in one of Fanshawe College’s Financial Planning Diploma or Degree programs with the ability to work 37.5 hours per week, meaning you are not going to school while working with RBC. If you are not currently a student you will not be considered for this posting.

What is the opportunity?

We are offering an exciting opportunity for Financial Planning students to complete a 3 rotation internship in Personal Banking. Each rotation is a 4 month program designed to give the successful student the foundation to build towards a successful banking career. After completing the training program, you will be able to further develop your unique customer service style and we encourage you to bring your best to our clients every day. In this role as you will learn how to provide financial advice to clients and find solutions that meet their individual needs. If successful in this program you have the potential for a second and third co-op or summer terms, leading to an opportunity to land a Full Time Career Position in the financial services industry with RBC upon graduation.

First rotation starts May 4, 2025 -August 21, 2025

Rotation #1- Banking Advisor Intern (First Summer Rotation).

What is the Early Talent Opportunity for Students?

The Banking Advisor Intern position is a 4 month program designed to give the successful student the foundation to build towards a successful banking career. What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Demonstrate passion for putting clients first
  • Problem-solving and people skills, with the ability to build strong relationships and proactively connect with clients.
  • Good Understanding of Canadian Banking Services
  • Flexibility, eagerness to learn, strong personal ethics, and a hunger for success.
  • Digital literacy across a broad range of devices (i.e., smartphones, tablets, laptops, etc.)
  • Willingness to obtain the Investment Funds in Canada or the Canadian Securities Course

Nice-to-have

  • Proven Track record in building rapport and maintaining client relationships within the financial or service industry.
  • Willingness to start your career in a rural market
  • Community ties to the branch you are working out of, or willingness to engage in local businesses and community events upon arrival
  • Student Leadership Participation, in clubs, events and or organizations
  • Knowledge of Community and Financial Markets and Trends

If successful you will be invited back to complete a second rotation.

Rotation # 2 - Banking Advisor Intern (Second Summer/Coop Rotation).

This is a continuation of the Banking Advisor Intern Program from rotation 1 - focusing on deepening advice capabilities with clients.

The formal learning plan will continue with intermediate and enhanced credit modules and introductory Investment Excellence Workshops

If successful you will be invited back to complete a third rotation.

Role #3 – Financial Planning Associate Intern (Third Summer/Coop Rotation).

What is a Financial Planning Associate?

As an Associate, you provide proactive sales support and responsive value-based client contact for a team of Financial Planners. You are responsible for supporting the unit/team in achieving sales objectives by contributing to a differentiated client experience. In this role, you collaborate with partners across the organization to identify and meet client needs and goals, strengthening client relationships and making it easier for them to do business with RBC.


 

What will you do?

  • You are a strategic member of the Financial Planning team and will work directly with Financial Planners to provide pre- and post-interaction enablement and client service and fulfillment in connection with their financial plan.
  • Maximize opportunities to effectively identify client needs, make referrals, expand profitable client relationships, and track and review progress against the teams’ annual sales plan.Increase sales enablement for Financial Planners by assisting with preparations for client meetings, and supporting the fulfilment of credit, investments, and everyday banking solutions.
  • You enable and educate our clients by proactively leading with advice, serving through Digital and by leading as a Digital Ambassador who keeps current on technology by building your digital IQ
  • Exercise due diligence in following all policies and procedures, and identity/correct areas of operational risk
     

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Mutual Funds accreditation (e.g., Investment Funds in Canada, or the Canadian Securities Course)
  • Perform as a One RBC Advisor with a breadth and depth of expertise across everyday banking, investments and credit, with the ability to fulfill on a robust Advice Experience on both personal and business needs
  • Strong client contact routines that build yours and your Financial Planners calendar proactively, integrating consistent retention and anchoring activities to help the team achieve greater results
  • Flexibility, eagerness to learn, strong personal ethics, and a hunger for success
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment, demonstrating strong collaboration skills
  • Ability to leverage your own capabilities, and those of the right partner in our ecosystem, at the right time, meeting client’s entire suite of financial needs.

Nice-to-have

  • Track record in building rapport and maintaining client relationships within the financial industry
  • Ability to provide increasingly complex everyday banking, investment and credit advice for both personal and business clients
