Reporting to the Head Camp Counsellor, the Camp Counsellors are responsible for assisting Head Counsellors in the planning and delivering of a high-quality program that fosters healthy child development; supervising and engaging their own camp groups independently or collaboratively; ensuring a safe and positive day camp environment for all in accordance with the policies and procedures outlined by the City of Niagara Falls and the Ministry of Health.
Responsibilities:
Maintain daily communication with the Head Counsellor and Camp Coordinator and the recreation coordinator as necessary.
Plan and lead a wide variety of games, arts, drama, crafts, songs, passive activities, and outdoor environmental activities.
Communicate information and events with parents and caregivers.
Attend meetings and training sessions, as necessary.
Adhere to all applicable City of Niagara Falls policies and procedures.
Maintain a safe, but fun, atmosphere for all campers.
Ensure that the needs for each camper in their care are being met on a daily basis.
Ensure that all records and reports are prepared and maintained (e.g. supply requisitions, safety checks, incident / accident forms, discipline forms, etc.).
Inform the Head Counsellor if there is any suspicion of child abuse or neglect.
Open and secure any buildings that are used for the program.
Report all equipment or facility repair needs to the Head Counsellor.
Assist in the cleaning and maintenance of the facility and equipment.
Assist with facilitating the swim test and participate actively and monitor campers in the pool and splash pad areas.
Perform First Aid as needed and contact EMS, if necessary
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Experience working or volunteering with children
Current (within three years) Standard First Aid
Current (within three years) CPR level C / AED
Vulnerable Sector Police Clearance
High Five’s Principles of Healthy Child Development
Enrolled in full-time post-secondary studies or a recent graduate.
