Summary:
The Communications Service Intern supports the communications team in day-to-day activities across Ulnooweg’s three entities. In this role, you’ll contribute to both internal and external communications, assist with event planning, and help manage content across Ulnooweg’s social media platforms. This internship is a great opportunity for someone interested in media, storytelling, and community engagement to gain hands-on experience in a supportive and collaborative environment.
Responsibilities:
Social Media Content Creation
Capture and edit short, lo-fi video content (e.g. Reels and TikToks) that highlights our workshops, facilitators, and behind-the-scenes moments.
Support day-to-day posting and content planning, with a focus on building community and relatability on TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook.
Help brainstorm creative, low-barrier video ideas that reflect our values and connect with youth audiences.
Assist with drafting social media captions and gathering visual content for future posts.
Track basic social media insights and flag posts that perform well.
Feedback and Evaluation
Create simple, accessible feedback forms for programs.
General Communications Support
Maintain organized folders of media content (photos, videos, graphics).
Attend team meetings.
Support other outreach or communications tasks as needed.
Desired skills and experience:
Basic video editing skills (e.g. using CapCut, Edits, or native TikTok/Reels editors).
Familiarity with TikTok and Instagram, especially current trends and what makes lo-fi content engaging.
Strong written communication, able to write clearly, thoughtfully, and in a tone that resonates with youth.
Comfort using digital tools like One Drive, Microsoft Office Suite, and Canva.
Organizational skills, able to keep track of tasks, content, and feedback in a clear and tidy way.
Desired qualities and attitudes
Collaborative and respectful: works well with others, values community voices.
Willing to learn: willing to grow their skills and ask questions when they’re unsure.
Culturally aware and sensitive: shows respect for Indigenous cultures, perspectives, and teachings.
Comfortable talking to people: able to help gather stories, feedback, and media from participants and facilitators (with support).
