Job Description - Communications Specialist Graphic Design & Visual Content

Job Title: Communications Specialist – Graphic Design & Visual Content


Reports to: Manager, Advocacy and Research


Department: Advocacy and Research (Communications Unit)


Duration/Term Length: Up to two (2) academic semesters: subject to semester-by-semester renewal


Compensation: $18/Hour (adjust as needed)


Work Hours: Approximately 15 hours per week within normally scheduled operating hours, in addition to occasional evening/weekend meetings. Hours may vary depending on the time of the semester.


Location: Hybrid (remote and in-person), with rotation across campuses as necessary.



Overview


Reporting to the Manager, Advocacy and Research, the Communications Specialist – Graphic Design & Visual Content is a member of the Advocacy & Research team and supports student representation through visual communication.



The role translates research findings, student consultations, and advocacy priorities into accessible and engaging visual materials. Rather than operating as a separate marketing function, communications staff participate in planning meetings, campaign development, and issue response alongside research and advocacy staff.



This position supports evidence-based advocacy by helping students understand complex issues such as affordability, wellness, academic policy, and institutional decision-making.



Duties and Responsibilities




Visual Design & Production



  • Designs infographics, explainers, reports, posters, presentations, and event signage to support organizational communications, advocacy, and research activities;

  • Translates research findings, consultation outcomes, and policy information into clear, accessible visual formats;

  • Develops and maintains templates and visual standards to ensure brand consistency across all materials.



Collaboration



  • Works with the Advocacy & Research team to communicate data and student feedback to diverse audiences;

  • Coordinates with the Social Media & Campaigns Specialist to align visuals with messaging strategy;

  • Supports CCSAI committees and working groups by preparing communication materials;

  • Attends team meetings and contributes communication input on emerging student issues.

  • Works with CCSAI’s Communications Department to align Board messaging with CCSAI branding guidelines.

  • Provides content to the CCSAI’s Communications Department for the Board section of the CCSAI website and social media platforms, ensuring timely and relevant updates.


 


Other



  • Other duties as assigned by the Manager, Advocacy and Research.



Qualifications



  • Strong interest in graphic design

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop; After Effects an asset);

  • Experience creating materials for both print and digital platforms;

  • Ability to interpret written or policy content into accessible visuals;

  • Strong attention to detail and time management skills;

  • Interest in student advocacy, public service, or community engagement.



Eligibility



  • Must be currently enrolled as a full-time Centennial College student upon applying and for the duration of the term;

  • Demonstrate good academic standing;

  • Must have a valid Social Insurance Number (minimum 6 months to expiry);

  • Mandatory evening/weekend meeting attendance as required;

  • Available to travel to all campus locations.
