Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is proud to be part of the provincial implementation of minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs), an initiative aimed at enhancing nursing practice and strengthening quality of care across the health system. mNPRs set the minimum number of nurses providing care to patients on a given unit. In British Columbia, mNPRs are developed in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the BC Nurses’ Union (BCNU) and health organizations. JOB SUMMARY:

Within the context of a client and family centred care model and under the direction of a Manager or designate, provides direct nursing care to both stable and unstable patients/residents/clients commensurate with the level of education and training. Operates in accordance with the unit/program philosophy, competency guidelines, the established vision and values of the organization and the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) Standards for Nursing Practice and Code of Ethics.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience
Successful completion of 2nd Year RPN or BScN program or equivalent* and continued enrollment in a recognized nursing education program. Current registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as an Employed Student Registrant. Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support.

* Equivalency to be determined with nursing education program in which student is registered.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to organize assigned workload and set priorities.
Ability to think critically and problem solve.
Ability to deal effectively with a variety of internal and external contacts including co-workers, physicians, community agency representatives, patients/residents/clients, and families.
Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
