Job Description - Engineering Intern (8-, 12-, and 16-months)

Clifton is currently searching for an Engineering Intern with employment opportunity lengths of 8-months, 12-months, and 16-months. In this Engineering Intern you will support Clifton’s multi-disciplinary project teams on a variety of tasks and assignments to gain experience and insight into the field of engineering. During this comprehensive internship, you will learn the fundamentals of field work, develop an understanding of practical engineering applications, and complete an impactful business project.


 


Key Responsibilities 



  • Support multi-disciplinary project teams on various tasks and field assignments, including geotechnical investigations, core logging, field and lab testing, and more.

  • Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure the successful completion of project deliverables and deadlines.

  • Support project managers with the development and maintenance of project plans and schedules.

  • Assist in the preparation of engineering documents and reports.

  • Adapt Clifton’s Quality Management System (QMS) into project delivery.

  • Complying with Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) guidelines, ensuring adherence to all applicable legislation, standards, and Clifton’s own health and safety policies.

  • Other duties, as assigned.


 


Required Qualifications and Experience



  • Enrolled in an accredited post-secondary institute currently pursuing an Undergraduate Degree in Engineering and must have completed at least two (2) years of study at an accredited post-secondary institution.

  • Excellent teamwork skills with a proven ability to work in collaboration with multi-disciplinary project teams across Clifton.

  • Detail-oriented, strong written and verbal communication skills with a professional, service-oriented approach to internal and external interactions.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products.

  • Familiarity with Materials testing methods and standards in construction services is considered an asset.

  • Complying with Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) guidelines, ensuring adherence to all applicable legislation, standards, and Clifton’s own health and safety policies.


 


What to Expect


Through our internship experience, we invest in you. We provide select, mid-program (2nd or 3rd year) students with 8-months, 12-months, or 16-months months of structured, on-the-job learning. You will receive personalized support in a specialized area at one of our regional offices.


 


Summer (4-months) – Field and Lab Fundamentals



  • Learn the fundamentals of field work for your Practice Team, by performing a variety of on-site materials testing services, field and lab sampling, data acquisition, borehole logging, laboratory testing and documentation for quality control and quality assurance purposes, with an emphasis on learning the requirements of the project or job assigned and delivering these services accordingly.


 


Fall/Winter (8-months) – Technical Project with a Practice Team



  • Take responsibility for a technical project, including planning, execution, and documentation.

  • Prepare and deliver a presentation on the project findings and outcomes to the Practice Director and leadership team.


 


Spring (4-months) – Transition, Succession and Mentoring



  • Support the integration of a new engineering intern by providing guidance and mentorship to assist with knowledge transfer and ensure a smooth transition.

  • Continue contributing to ongoing projects and initiatives.
