Job Description - Event Coordinator 35th Anniversary - Canada Summer Jobs

Reports to: Director of Communications and Events
Work Arrangement: Temporary full-time, hybrid position with in-person events. Occasional weekend hours may be required.

Hours: 30 hours per week June 15-August 28, 2026. 7 hours per week August 29-October 5.
Salary: $25 per hour

We will begin reviewing applications on April 30, and the position will remain open until filled.

About BEST:

Since 1991, Better Environmentally Sound Transportation (BEST) has worked to make sustainable transportation options better and more accessible. Our programs include initiatives that promote sustainable transportation and mobility equity, including programs that help newcomers, high school students, and seniors access the transportation options they need. Position Overview:

The event coordinator - 35th Anniversary is responsible for planning, organizing, and executing events and other campaigns to celebrate BEST’s 35th Anniversary in 2026. This role involves coordinating logistics, leading volunteers and developing campaigns. 

Responsibilities:

Planning and Execution:

  • Develop and execute plans for a 35th Anniversary Celebration Event.
  • Develop and execute plans for a 35th Anniversary Campaign. This could include op-eds or other initiatives to promote equitable and sustainable transportation.
  • Coordinate logistics, including venue selection, scheduling, transportation, catering, staffing, insurance and equipment needs.

Leadership and Collaboration: 

  • Lead and guide event volunteers.
  • Collaborate with community organizations and partners.
  • Foster positive relationships with stakeholders, sponsors, and participants.

Promotion and Outreach: 

  • Develop promotional materials and strategies.
  • Collaborate closely with the Marketing and Events Coordinator to engage with the community through social media, activations, newsletters, and other channels.

Qualifications

  • Background in event management, community development, urban planning, marketing, communications, or a related field.
  • Experience in event planning, program coordination, or community engagement within a non-profit or public sector setting considered an asset.

Skills

  • Strong ability to plan and execute community events, including managing venues, permits, transportation, staffing, and budgets.
  • Experience working with community organizations, sponsors, and volunteers to foster meaningful partnerships.
  • Ability to lead and support volunteers and staff for event execution.
  • Proficiency in creating promotional materials, social media engagement, and outreach strategies in collaboration with the Marketing Coordinator.
  • Passion for sustainable transportation considered an asset.
