ABOUT SAMU 

The Students' Association of MacEwan University (SAMU) is a non-profit organization working independently from MacEwan University to support students. Our purpose is to enrich the student experience by focusing on their non-academic needs through an array of student-driven programs and services.

We are governed by elected student representatives who set the strategic vision on behalf of students. With support from over 50 full-and part-time staff, we keep our mandate student-focused to achieve the vision.

PURPOSE

This position is responsible for assisting the Creative Services team with graphic design and other related duties for marketing projects including the development of designs, templates and assets for print and digital.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Graphic Design – (50%) 

• Develop graphic design concepts based on provided copywriting or marketing request, either independently or by art direction
  


• Create final artwork for various kinds of digital and print marketing materials
  


• Assist in the development of design templates, as needed
  


• Assist the Creative Services Team in the ideation and development of marketing and branding concepts, as needed
  

Design Production – (35%) 

• Update existing graphic design templates with new dates, time, and information
  


• Adapt existing design concepts for use in digital or print communication
  


• Edit various marketing materials or assets, as needed
  


• Prepare design files for print or digital implementation
  

Other – (15%) 

• Work with Basecamp project management software to communicate and collaborate with other staff on assigned projects, including updating tasks
  


• Attend weekly department meetings, when possible
  


• Liaise with MacEwan Print Services, as needed
  


• Assist the Marketing Team with other tasks and duties as required
  


• Other duties as assigned by the Creative Services Manager.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Preference will be given to current MacEwan Students registered in a minimum of one class during either Fall 2026 or Winter 2027 term.
  


• Enrolled in Design Diploma/Degree or related field
  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Strong organization skills, attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines
  


• An understanding of the graphic requirements for various print and digital marketing applications
  


• Ability to process and implement constructive feedback
  

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Strong Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud software with an emphasis on Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop
  


• Photography and illustration skills are considered an asset
  
   

WORKING CONSIDERATIONS

• Primarily a sedentary office setting with standard office equipment.


• Ability to sit for extended periods, use a computer and other office equipment, and occasionally lift up to 20 pounds

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Up to 25 hours/week with office hours between 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. Will work around the student's schedule. Some evening and weekend work may be required for this position. This is a hybrid position with majority of work being done from home, however, some in office days are required.
